A United Kingdom-based Nigerian and aspirant for the House of Representatives slot of Ogo Oluwa/Surulere Federal Constituency come 2027, Comrade Ogunwoye Gbemiga Samson (OGS), has built a new Okada Park in his hometown, Iresaapa, Oyo State, as a way of giving back to the community and inspiring young people not to despise humble beginnings.
Recounting his early life experience, OGS revealed that after completing his West African Examinations Council (WAEC) in 2011, he left his village, Mogaji, for Abuja in search of university admission. According to him, the journey was far from easy, as he took on menial jobs to survive while pursuing his academic dream.
“In 2011, I left our Mogaji village to Abuja about three months after my WAEC. I started with car wash work at Jabi Park, but because of my skin’s reaction to detergent and water, I had to stop. I later began Okada riding around Gudu Junction, Kabusa, Apo, Durumi, and other areas,” he narrated.
He added that the little money he saved from riding Okada helped him to settle into the University of Abuja after securing admission. “It was during those days that I learnt the values of preparation, faith, and hard work,” he said.
Reflecting on his experience, OGS noted that his humble beginning as an Okada rider taught him to see dignity and respect in every form of labour. He said the new Okada park project in Iresaapa was inspired by his personal story and desire to create a more organised and safe environment for commercial motorcyclists in the community.
“I see dignity, respect, and honour in every profession, regardless of our background. My experience as a former Okada rider who never gave up motivated me to construct a new Okada Park for my brothers in the hometown,” he explained.
He encouraged Nigerian youths to remain focused and steadfast in the pursuit of their goals, emphasising that “where we are today does not define us, but our goals and direction in life are what truly matter.”
