Federal Polytechnic Ayede has, again, entered into a strategic partnership with the Youths Enterprise Development and Innovation Society (YEDIS) to strengthen skills acquisition and entrepreneurship development among its students.
Declaring the workshop open, the Rector, Engr. Dr. Taofeek Adekunle Abdul-Hameed, emphasised that the Polytechnic’s core vision is to produce graduates who become employers of labour rather than job seekers.
Sharing a personal experience, Abdul-Hameed recalled teaching satellite dish installation when je was at Federal Polytechnic Ede, noting that one of his former students is now earning a living from the skill.
“Our students must pay prompt attention to skills acquisition if they don’t want to lag behind in today’s changing world,” he said.
He added that the institution’s ranking as the 7th best polytechnic in Nigeria and his recognition as “Best Rector in Nigeria” were testaments to its rapid growth since establishment.
Delivering the keynote address, the Executive Director of YEDIS, Chief Olaore Rafiu Akinpelu, urged young people to take initiative in leadership and entrepreneurship.
“In a quest for a sustainable future, young people must engage deeply in entrepreneurship efforts, especially within vulnerable communities. Prioritising meaningful employment for underserved youths unlocks potential for economic growth, peace and prosperity,” Chief Akinpelu stated.
He explained that the workshop would address global challenges facing youths, including unemployment, while proposing innovative solutions.
The event also featured presentations on waste management, artificial intelligence, marketing, and challenges in entrepreneurship.
In his opening remark earlier, the Director of the Centre for Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (CSAED), Mr. Oluwaseun Owojori, commended the Rector of the institution for his unwavering support to the Centre.
He urged students to take the programme seriously, stressing that entrepreneurship education is vital to overcoming challenges in today’s economic climate.
“This programme is not one to take lightly. Adequate attention must be paid so that at the end, students are well equipped to weather the storm associated with entrepreneurship,” Owojori said.
Also present opening ceremony were Deputy Rector (Academic), Mr. Azeez Olasunkanmi Ojo; as well as Deans, Directors, Heads of Departments, staff, and students.
