The Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Mr Sunday Dare, has congratulated Daniel Igali, the president of the Nigeria Wrestling Federation on his election into the Bureau of United World Wrestling.
Igali scored the highest number of votes, 83, to lead a field of 17 contestants, including four returning incumbents, vying for six available positions at the body’s congress held in Belgrade, Serbia.
Mr Dare urged Igali to maximise his new position in the global wrestling body to further develop the sport in Nigeria and Africa.
Nigeria won a silver medal in Wrestling at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and followed up with three golds, two silvers and a bronze at the 2022 Commonwealth Games.
