Oyo Sate Governor, Engr Seyi Makinde, has assured the Governing Council and Management of Federal Polytechnic, Ayede, Oyo State of his administration’s supports for the effective take-off of academic activities in the institution.
He made the pledge while hosting the institution’s Governing Council and Management in his office at Agodi, Ibadan, on Wednesday.
At the event which was also attended by the Onpetu of Ijeru, Oba Sunday Oladapo Oyediran, Governor Makinde, while responding to an address delivered by the institution’s Governing Council Chairman, Professor Dakas C. J. Dakas, promised to look into the areas of security, infrastructure and other supports as requested by the Institution.
Professor Dakas’s address read in part: “Let me congratulate Your Excellency as the chief facilitator of the establishment of this institution, which will remain one of the outstanding landmark achievements of your administration. I assure you that the Council and Management team will work hard to justify your struggle that secured Oyo State the hosting right of the young institution.
“First, as a young institution, the Federal Polytechnic, Ayede invariably grapples with infrastructural challenges. We, therefore, humbly request that Your Excellency approve the release of the Government Technical College, Ogbomoso to the Polytechnic to serve as one of its temporary take-off sites.
“Second, against the backdrop of the prevailing security situation in Nigeria, coupled with the fact that the students, staff and other stakeholders of the institution will be attracted from all over the country to Oyo State in general and Ogbomoso in particular, we will very much appreciate your assistance in putting in place adequate security arrangements to ensure the security and safety of all.
“Third, we request Your Excellency to help us put in place necessary facilities such as good access roads, electricity, water supply, among other social amenities, most especially at Ayede, the host community.”
The Plateau-born don also solicited for vehicles (cars and buses) to ease transportation for both staff and students as well as financial assistance to the institution which, according to him, will be highly valued.
He also pleaded with the governor to ensure the timely approval and release of the Certificate of Occupancy and all other relevant documents relating to the Polytechnic’s permanent site.
“Your Excellency, like the proverbial Oliver Twist, our needs are many. So, we will continue to ask for your kind gesture and seek, regularly, from the pot of magnanimity of your administration as the situation arises.
“I wish to sincerely thank you for granting our request to be here with you and for the hospitality extended to us, so far, by the good people of Oyo State,” he added.
Responding, Governor Makinde expressed the government’s readiness to support the young institution and promised to attend to the requests.
He said, “Everything you requested is already in my heart. Within the limited resources of the state, we will assist Federal Polytechnic, Ayede, Oyo State. We will gladly give the facility of Government Technical College, Ogbomoso to the Polytechnic.”
He also noted and hopes that the institution would key into the vision of the pace-setter state in the area of job creation as a technical based institution of higher learning.
On security, the governor emphasised that the administration would not relent its efforts in protecting lives and property of the residents of the state, in general, and temporary/permanent sites of the institution in particular.
He explained further that his administration would make use of the conventional security and paramilitary outfits, saying “the staff and students should be rest assured that the temporary and permanent sites of the Polytechnic will be safe.”
The governor presented an artwork to Prof. Dakas on behalf of the state government.
