As part of efforts to mitigate unemployment in the society, the Ogbomoso zonal chapter of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) will, between 8th and 13th August, join the global communities to celebrate this year’s International Youth Day on the theme “Green Skills for Youth: Towards A Sustainable World.”
The zonal council, under the leadership of Comrade Mathew Oyewusi, has packaged a
week-long event beginning with media engagement from 8th August, 2023 and ending on Sunday, 13th August, 2023.
The events will feature lecture, panel discussion, among others, by the creme de la creme of societies.
A statement by the Council’s zonal Public Relations Officer, Comrade Stephen Odetunde, quotes Comrade Oyewusi saying “Unemployment has been one of the greatest challenges faced by youths and there is a need to tap into the potentials of green skills in this era.
“The high point of the celebration will be the anniversary lecture on the 10th of August.
“The zonal council has packaged the weeklong programme as a means of celebrating ourselves as youths. The youth constitute the larger part of our society and for the nation and the world at large to survive and attain its potential, the youth must not be left behind.
“Last year’s theme was on creating a world for all ages and this year, we will be talking on empowering the youths with green skills towards achieving a sustainable world.”
“The International Youth Day (IYD) is a day set aside for the youths to commend the resilience of youths across the world.
“In particular, Nigerian youths deserve to be commended and celebrated for their selfless services and contributions in all aspects of the economy, security, innovations, and nation-building.”
