The new Soun of Ogbomosoland, His Imperial Majesty (HIM), Oba Ghandi Afolabi Olaoye Orumogege III, was, on Friday, amidst joy and jubilation, installed as the 21st Soun of Ogbomosoland, having performed some necessary traditional rites.
Oba Olaoye, clad in white agbada, entered Ogbomoso at about 7: 00 a.m. in a chopper landed at Ogbomoso Grammar School, Ogbomoso.
Oyo State governor, Engr Seyi Makinde, last Saturday, announced Prince Ghandi as the Soun-elect, to fill the stool that became vacant following the demise of Oba Jimoh Oladunni Oyewumi Ajagungbade III who joined his ancestors on December 12, 2021, having spent 47 years on the throne.
Ever since the demise of Oba Oyewumi Ajagungbade III, there have been struggles on who becomes the new Soun of Ogbomosoland.
Part of the exercises that were performed by the new king at the ancient palace today were climbing of the ladder of rites, dancing round Orisa-Popo, standing and praying in front of graveyards of all the past 20 Souns of Ogbomosoland, among others.
Present at the palace were the head of the kingmakers and Are-Ago of Ogbomosoland, High Chief Sobalaje Otolorin; Chief Imam of Ogbomosoland, Sheikh Teliat Yunus Ayilara; Bishop of the Ogbomoso Diocese of Methodist Church Nigeria, Ademola Moradeyo; Soun-in-Council; among others.
Oba Olaoye , who offered prayers, enjoyed warm reception from the people of Ogbomoso and its environs.
