The city of Ogbomoso erupted in joy on Thursday as the new Soun of Ogbomosoland, Oba Afolabi Ghandi Olaoye Orumogege III, appeared and was warmly received in the community after the seven-day seclusion tradition.
Oba Olaoye was, last Thursday, installed as the 21st Soun of Ogbomosoland following his approval by the Oyo State governor, Engr Seyi Makinde.
Pannigeriannews.com learnt that Oba Olaoye is the second Christian to be installed as Soun, the first being Oba Emmanuel Olayode Layode III.
The stool of the first monarch became vacant after the 20th Soun of Ogbomosoland, Oba Jimoh Oladunni Oyewumi Ajagungbade III, joined his ancestors on December 12, 2021, having spent 47 years on throne.
After entering the palace of Ogbomoso at Oja-gbo, Ogbomoso, he moved directly to ‘Abata’, a rectangular building housing the graves of all the past Souns, among others, to perform some rites relating to the stool of Soun of Ogbomosoland.
Amidst pomp and circumstance, the king moved to his court and sat on the exalted stool.
Oba Olaoye assured the people of Ogbomoso and its environs that there would be meaning developments in the land.
He said he came down to Ogbomoso for the purpose of transforming and developing the land.
Amidst echos of applauses, Oba Olaoye said, “I must thank you all for the joy of today. Today, delight has come to Ogbomoso. It doesn’t mean that light never existed. But, today, great light has shone in Ogbomoso.
“Ogbomoso will take it’s rightful position in Yoruba. Investments and companies will come to Ogbomoso and there will be employment opportunities for our teeming youths. All of these will be made possible by the grace of God.
“My coming to this throne is divine and we will do everything possible to development this community. God Almighty has blessed me. I’m not looking wealth. I’m not looking fame. I came here to see to progress of Ogbomoso.
“I want all who may feel aggrieved to work with us for the progress of the land.”
While speaking at the ancient palace, a world renowned preacher of the word, Bro Gbile Akannni, charged Oba Olaoye to be more dedicated to God and the service to humanity.
He also encouraged the new king to always have his bible on his table all the times.
He said the had come for prosperity and abundance of developments to come in.
He, however, advised all and sundry to do away with sins, saying that sins are a factor for underdevelopment in the land. I will speak less, you will see action.
Among the traditional rulers and dignitaries at the event were: the Oluwo of Iwoland, Oba Abdrul-Rasheed Adewale Akanbi; Aresa-Pupa of Iresa-Pupa, Oba Moses Olayiwola Ajiboye III; Alajaawa of Ajaawa, Oba Thomas Adeyeye Oyetunji
Soun-in-Council led by Are-Ago of Ogbomosoland, High Chief Sobalaje Otolorin. There were other high chiefs and chiefs.
Gen. Oladayo Popoola, Dr Saka Balogun, Senator Ayoade Adeseun, Barrister Olusegun Adekunle, Prof. Sola Adepoju, Alhaji Lamidi Monsur Ayoade Ejide, Otuuba Bayo Babatunde, among other notable dignitaries were in attendance.
