The Etsu Nupe and Chairman, Niger State Council of Traditional Rulers, Alhaji Yahya Abubakar, has described the death of Mr Jones Ajayi, a reporter with the Nigeria Television Authority (NTA) Bida station, as very devastating.
Ajayi died in the early hours of Thursday after a brief illness in Minna
In a condolence message, the Etsu Nupe said that the death of the veteran journalist was a great loss not only to his family or the NTA, but also to the entire Nupe Kingdom and Niger state.
Abubakar described the deceased as a very humble, dedicated, diligent and committed to his duty.
“Words cannot express the rude shock and pain in losing such a compatriot in the struggle to make our society a better place,” he said.
This death is a great loss that has robbed us of a consummate newsman whose patriotism and love for a better Nigeria was not in doubt.
The Royal father said, “His incisive and poignant contributions in disseminating news around the Nupe kingdom to the public and national discourse will be greatly missed”.
“He left behind an indelible mark not only on the journalism profession but also on moving the country to greater heights.
According to Etsu Nupe, “I was deeply touched when I received the news that Jones Ajayi had passed on.”
He also commiserated with the Nigeria Television Authority, the Nigeria Union of Journalist (NUJ), Niger chapter, and prayed to God to grant the family of the deceased the fortitude to bear the loss as it is only Allah that has the power to give and take life.
