An academic librarian at the Federal Polytechnic Ayede Main Library, Mr Jesubukade Emmanuel Ajakaye, is among the sixteen people, across the world, who have won international fellowship of the Society for Scholarly Publishing (SSP).
Currently, Mr Ajakaye, a holder of Bachelor of Library and Information Studies (BLIS) and Master of Library and Information Studies (MLIS) of the Nigeria’s Premier University, University of Ibadan, is the systems librarian at the Polytechnic.
Meanwhile, the Rector of the Polytechnic, Engr Dr Taofeek Adekunle Abdul-Hameed, has congratulated Mr Ajakaye, lauded his scholarly and professional contributions and charged other staff to be outstanding in their scholarly and professional career.
A statement by the institution’s Protocols and Public Relations Officer, Mr Sunday Adepoju, quotes Dr Abdul-Hameed saying, “I really commend Mr Ajakaye for his doggedness in research and other contributions he is making within and outside the system. We are particularly proud of you for adding values to the reputation of the new institution.
“I must also charge all others to keep the flag flying. No meaningful contribution will go unnoticed, either by the local or national or even international communities. The Management of the Institution is ever ready to encourage and celebrate excellence in our various pursuits.”
According to SSP, Mr Ajakaye and other 15 fellows selected across the world, will be trained in 2024 and will have opportunities to meet top experts in US library and publishing firms.
Information from Mr Ajakaye reads “It is an early career fellowship I can enjoy because of Federal poly Ayede, located in Oyo State. It is meant to improve open access to scholarly communication and publishing to the academic community. I would be mentored for the 2024 and will give back to my immediate society.
“I thank the Federal Polytechnic Ayede community, beginning from our Rector to the Polytechnic Librarian, Dr Samuel Oke Ogunniyi; Registrar, Mr Akin Odesola and Bursar, Mrs Rashidat Titilola Oladepo; Management as well as staff genetally.”
Pannigeriannews.com reports that the Society for Scholarly Publishing (SSP), founded in 1978, is a nonprofit organisation formed to promote and advance communication among all sectors of the scholarly publication community through networking, information dissemination, and facilitation of new developments in the field.
It reports further that the SSP members represent all aspects of scholarly publishing—including publishers, printers, e-products developers, technical service providers, librarians, and editors.
SSP members come from a wide range of large and small commercial and nonprofit organisations. They meet at SSP’s annual meetings, educational seminars, and regional events to hear the latest trends from respected colleagues and discuss common and mutual (and sometimes divergent) goals and viewpoints.
