Barely 58 years after the demise of Chief Samuel Ladoke Akintola, the Samuel Ladoke Akintola Memorial Foundation is set to honour some notable personalties who have contributed immensely to the immortalisation of the late Premier of Western Region, Chief Samuel Ladoke Ajala Akintola.
He was one of the earliest politicians of Ogbomoso extraction of the country.
Born on July 6, 1910, Akintola, Nigerian politician, aristocrat, orator, and lawyer, was the Aare Ona Kakanfo XIII of Yorubaland and served as Premier of Western Nigeria from independence in 1960 till his assassination on January 15, 1966.
The lecture cum award ceremony is scheduled to hold on January 26, 2024 at the Parliament Building, Oyo State Government Secretariat, Agodi, Ibadan.
According to a statement signed by the Foundation’s Coordinator, Mr Yemi Adedokun, and Public Relations Officer, Mr Remi Oladoye, the awardees included: President Bola Ahmed Tinubu; former President Muhammadu Buhari; Governor Oluseyi Abiodun Makinde; former Governor Abiola Ajimobi; Speaker of Oyo State House of Assembly, Rt Hon. Debo Ogundoyin; Former House of Reps Leader, Hon. Mulikat Akande-Adeola; Senator Ayoade Adeseun.
Others are LAUTECH Ag VC. Professor Rom Kalilu; LAUTECH registrar, Dr Kayode Ogunleye; a businessman and philanthropist, Prince Adegbile Adeomi; Alhaji Abolade Salami; Alhaji Oriyomi Hamzat and Oodu’a Investment Limited.
The statement explains further that the lecture will be delivered by Professor Muyiwa Popoola, Deputy Vice Chancellor, Ajayi Crowther University, Oyo While Prince Dotun Oyelade will speak on Life and Times of Chief Ladoke Akintola.
South-West governors, traditional rulers, captains of industry and others from all walks of life are expected to grace the occasion.
