Eminent indigenes of Ogbomoso and beyond recently converged on the popular Living Soul Garden (LSG) Hotels in the city to felicitate an illustrious son of the land, Hon. Sayo Alagbe, a journalist, broadcaster, writer, communication consultant, poet and culture exponent, who turned 60 years of age.
The turn-out of the guests at the birthday celebration, it has been observed, underscores Alagbe’s popularity and acceptability in the professional and political spheres.
The celebrant has authored, among others, the following books: “Oba Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi III: His Life, History and Philosophy”; “Ìjálá Ògúndáre Fóyánmu: Ìjìnlè Ohùn Enu Yorùbá”; “Gani Adam: Leadership Challenge”; “Lérè Pàímó: A Quintessential Thespian”; “TimoToye”; a collection of Yoruba poems; 1000 Yoruba proverbs, book of proverbs, among other scholarly works. So many academic researchers working on Yoruba culture have thronged in office for consultation and information gathering.
The media guru worked with the defunct African Concord, The Comet, among others and established his consultancy firm, Timfred Communications.
Hon. Segun Ogunwuyi, the Chief of Staff to Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde; Philanthropist and CEO of Ejide Enterprises, Alhaji Lamidi Monsur Ayaode Ejide; Majority Leader of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Hon. Sanjo Adedoyin; former Deputy Chief of Staff to Governor Adebayo Alao-Akala, Alh. Razaq Gbadegesin Kareem; Hon. Olufemi Oladokun Onireti; Alaaje of Aaje Ologo in Ogbomoso, HRH Oba Reuben Adesina Amao JP fsi dss dir rtd, among others too numerous to mention attended such event, held on Sunday evening.
Speaking on the celebrant, Hon. Ogunwuyi, who presented his heartfelt birthday wishes to the celebrant, stressed that Hon. Alagbe represents dedication and firmness in whatever he believes in.
“Hon. Sayo Alagbe has marked 60th birth anniversary. He will celebrate 70, 80, 90, and 100 years on earth. After reaching 100 years, he can now ask for more. But very sincerely, I wish him long life and prosperity in good health and abundance of peace. As it has been said, my relationship with him has not been quite long; it doesn’t mean I didn’t know him. I knew him with our father and former Governor Adebayo Alao-Akala.
“My intimate relationship with him could be traced back the last election. On that basis, I speak of him. He is loyal and stays firm in whatever he believes in. His breed is not very common in our politics.
“You know that some politicians will speak with two edges of their mouths. He is a counsellor. You have stood by our party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). As you have stood by us and our party wholeheartedly, you will reap the fruit of your labour very soonest,” Ogunwuyi stated.
Alhaji Mosnur Ejide in his remark, congratulated Hon. Alagbe and charged him continue cultivating the relentless spirit for which he is known.
Alhaji Ejide stated, “The fact you have all gathered here underscores the love for the celebrant and his commitment to humanity. We can all see the Chief of Staff to the Governor calm and in haste to leave this event. I see in him wisdom deposited in him by God as evident in his jobs.”
Urging Alagbe not to relent, Ejide said, “Hon. Sayo Alagbe has done a lot in many areas but I urge him not to relent. He should continue to document his vision in the areas of art and culture. If you converse with him for just five minutes, you will be touched by the wisdom is endowed with. He excels in diverse programmes and projects he has handled.
“Everybody likes money, including me. But the love of money should on the high side. This he exemplifies because he is contented and not money-moved. His focus is not on money and acquisition of wealth. He focuses on a brighter future for himself and people around him.”
Hon. Onireti who contested the 2023 Ogbomoso North, South and Oriire federal constituency seat in House of Representatives on the platform of the PDP, also extolled the virtues of Alagbe, also attested that the celebrant deserves all accolades, noting that this has been copiously stated by Hon. Ogunwuyi, Alhaji Ejide, Oba Amao and so on.
In his assessment of the celebrant, Oba Amao reiterated that the contribution of the celebrant in art, culture, among others, is worthy of note.
“On behalf of the entire community of Aaje Ologo in Ogbomoso, I congratulate Hon. Sayo Alagbe on this milestone and pray that Almighty God will, in His infinite mercies, keep him, protect him and bless him with long life and prosperity to enjoy the fruits of his labour,” Oba Amao stated.
Different categories of wishers were part of the historic event, including the Caretaker Chairmen of Ogbomoso South and Surulere Local Government Areas, Hon. Timothy Oyedokun and Hon. Isaiah Adegbite respectively and other prominent functionaries at the local and state levels.
Professor Akin Odebunmi of the Department of English, University of Ibadan; ace writer, historian and businessman, Mr. Adewuyi Adegbite, popularly known as Adema also graced the occasion.
