The lawmaker representing Oyo Central Senatorial District and Chairman, Senate Committee on Environment, Sen. Dr. Yunus Akintunde, has restated his unalloyed commitment to the development of his constituency, Oyo State and Nigeria as a whole.
Sen. Akintunde, who holds OND Physics (with Electronics), Bsc. Physics, Master of Public Administration, MSc. Energy Studies and a Doctorate Degree in Energy Studies, was elected as senator in 2023 on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Pannigeriannews com reports that the Oyo-born lawmaker had visited some parts of his constituency to present hipads (telephone devices) to beneficiaries of his facilitated seminar tagged “E- Lancing and Provision of Starter Packs for Selected Cooperative Society Groups” held across the eleven local government areas in his senatorial district, where the beneficiaries were presented with hipads, among others.
Akintunde also stated that he moved a motion against the Nigerian Electricity Regulation Commission’ (NERC’s) plan to increase electricity tariff.
Sen. Akintunde, while speaking on a special live radio programme on Brave 91.1 FM, Igbo-Ile, Ogbomoso, expressed his commitment to the people of the district and beyond, sharing the scorecard of his achievements within the shortest period of 15 months in the Red Chamber as a first timer.
Among others, he noted that he had sponsored a bill to upgrade the Federal College of Education (Special), Oyo to University of Special Edication and another on seeking the upgrade of School of Surveying and Geo-informatics to University of Geo-informatics, among other notable bills and motions.
“I have sponsored a bill to upgrade the Federal College of Education (Special), Oyo, Oyo State to Federal University of Special Education and likewise that of School of Surveying, Oyo to Federal University of Geomatics,” Sen. Akintunde explained.
Akintunde, who maintained that people in the position of authority should endeavour to serve selflessly, also said he had procured 120 solar panel boreholes to be sited in all 118 wards of the eleven local government areas that make up his senatorial district.
He also stated that 10,000 solar street lights would be sited in eleven local government areas of his constituency.
He also promised Federal polytechnic Ayede, also located in his constituency, that some of the solar street lights would be sited at the institution as part of his contribution to there.
He said, “I am not sparing efforts at getting dividends of democracy to my people and that the progress and development of our constituency, Oyo and Nigeria remain sacrosanct. I, therefore, wish to thank my supporters, our political party (APC), the constituents of Oyo Central Senatorial District, our numerous leaders and stakeholders, among others.”
