The Management of Federal Polytechnic Ayede, Oyo State, on Wednesday, warmly received the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Environment and Senator representing Oyo Central Senatorial District, Dr. Yunus Abiodun Akintunde.
The Rector of the institution, Engr. Dr. Taofeek Adekunle Abdul-Hameed, represented by the acting Rector and Deputy Rector (Academics), Mr Azeez Olasunkanmi Ojo, while welcoming the senator enumerated the philanthropical works of the lawmaker before becoming a senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Dr. Abdul-Hameed said he was not surprised at what the senator does presently, adding that the Polytechnic would be appreciative of his contributions as the senator representing the senatorial district of both the temporary and permanent sites of the fast growing polytechnic.
“You see, it’s a great privilege receiving Distinguished Senator Yunus Akintunde and his entourage on our campus today. Out of your magnanimity, Sir, you have decided to receive us.
“Our great Rector, as our PRO has said, is away to Abuja for the progress and development of our Polytechnic.
“So, on behalf of the Chairman of our Governing Council, Barrister Ademubowale Mercy Adelabu; Rector; other Principal Officers; Deans; Directors; staff and students, I welcome you and your entourage to Federal Polytechnic Ayede. We will be delighted to receive your gestures to our Polytechnic.
“While on Brave 91.1 FM, you have, before even telling us, announced the gesture of solar lights donated to us. This we appreciate with the whole of our hearts,” he said.
Sen. Akintunde, while responding, said he was happy to render support to humanity and particularly his constituency and beyond.
Dr. Yunus, who expressed his readiness to support the Polytechnic attain its potentials, noted that he had always shown interest in education.
“I am part of polytechnic system. I started from The Polytechnic, Ibadan before going to Lagos State University, Ojoo, Lagos. I’m a lover of knowledge and I am always striving to contribute my quota in the area of education and skills development, among others and in the legislative assignments as my primary responsibility.
“I am glad to be here and to identify with Federal Polytechnic Ayede,” Sen. Akintunde said.
He, therefore, said people in the position of authority should endeavour to serve selflessly.
The senator said Hon. Olu Afolabi, a second Republic House of representatives member, brought the now popular Federal college of Education (special), Oyo to Oyo during his tenure at the national assembly, saying that Hon. Afolabi’s legacy still remains evergreen till today.
The senator also said he had procured 120 solar panel boreholes which will be sited in all 118 wards of the eleven local government of his senatorial district.
He also stated that 10,000 solar street lights will sited in eleven local government of his constituency.
He promised Federal polytechnic Ayede that some of the solar street lights will sited at the institution.
Present at the reception programme held at the Rector’s Office were Deputy Rector, Administration, Dr mukhtar Oyewale Akintunde; Registrar, Mr Akin Odesola; Bursar, Alhaja Rashidat Titilola Oladepo; Polytechnic Librarian, Dr Samuel Ogunniyi; Dean, School of Environmental Technology and Director of Physical Planning, Arc. Dr. Kolawole Opeyemi Morakinyo; Dean of Student Affairs, Mr Musbau Afolabi; Director of Polytechnic Consults, Mr. Saheed Abiodun Tijani; Director, Centre for Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development, Mr. Oluwaseun Owojori, Engr. Mikail Idowu Adebunmi from the Directorate of Works and Services.
Others were Head, Department of Accountancy, Dr. Saheed Shittu; Head, Department of Computer Engineering Technology, Engr. Biodun Akanni; Mr. Musa Arioye and Mr. Ridwan Akinloye Inaolaji from Bursary, among others.
