Celebrating Federal Polytechnic Ayede’s Deputy Rector (Administration) on His Birthday

It is such a very special day commemorating the birth anniversary of an iconic scholar and teacher of teachers, the Deputy Rector (Administration) of the prestigious Federal Polytechnic Ayede, Oyo State, Dr. Mutairu Oyewale Akintunde.
Dr Akintunde has demonstrated exceptional expertise as a statistician, earning a reputation for excellence. We wish him ongoing success in his professional and personal pursuits. His contributions to the advancement of Federal Polytechnic Ayede have been highly significant.
It is apt to note that Dr. Akintunde is an indigene of Moniya in Akinyele Local Government of Oyo State. He is currently a chief lecturer in the Department of Statistics, Federal Polytechnic Ayede, Ayede, Oyo State, Nigeria. He holds National and Higher National Diplomas in Statistics from The Polytechnic, Ibadan; Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees from Joseph Ayo Babalola University, Ikeji Arakeji, Osun State and University of Ibadan, Ibadan respectively. He also obtained Postgraduate Diplomas, both in Education and Statistics, from the Universities of Calabar and Ibadan, respectively. He proceeded to the University of Botswana, Gaborone, Botswana, where he obtained a Doctor of Philosophy in Statistics, majoring in Econometrics Time Series.
He was appointed the Head, Department of Statistics, Federal Polytechnic, Ede, Osun State, from 2017 to 2019; Chairman, Research Committee; and Chairman of the Sub-Committee (public relations for International Conference of Sciences, Engineering and Environmental Technology (ICONSEET). At Federal Polytechnic Ayede, his the current Head of Department of Statistics, the Dean of the School of Science and Technology, and the Director of Academic Planning.
Akintunde has authored several textbooks in statistics; among them are “An Introduction to Statistical Theory (Volume 1, 2014)”, “Statistical Inference” (2022), “Econometrics Theory and Methods: A Modern Approach” (2023), and “Essentials of Mathematical Statistics with Application” Supported by TETfund (2024). He has put in several years of teaching, research, and administrative experiences.
Akintunde is a reviewer of so many peer-reviewed journals in statistics. He is currently an external examiner for the University of Botswana Postgraduate Programme in Statistics. He has also served and is still serving as an external examiner at many polytechnics, both public and private. He has published both locally and internationally in peer-reviewed journals of statistics (econometrics, time series, and applied statistics). He is a member of several professional bodies, such as Nigerian Statistical Association (NSA), Mathematical Association of Nigeria, Professional Statistician Society of Nigeria (PSSN) – where he is serving as National Auditor, International Association of Official Statistics (IAOS), and Botswana Statistical Association (BOSA). He is the Chairman of the Research and Publication Committee and member of several statutory and non-statutory committees of the Federal Polytechnic, Ayede. He is happily married and blessed with children.
