The mangement of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) has debunked a rumour making round that the University’s students got killed during an armed robbery attack around the student area.
An online news medium earlier reported that suspected herders had raided LAUTECH students’ off-campus hostels, claiming that two students were reportedly killed during the attack.
Meanwhile, LAUTECH Vice Chancellor, Professor Razaq Olatunde ROM Kalilu, has described the report as false and misleading, adding that the general public, parents and guardians as well as students should rest assured that the University authorities, through securities agencies, are on top of any likely security challenge in and around the campus.
Professor Kalilu, in a statement by the institution’s Public Relations Officer, Mr. Lekan Fadeyi, said, “Our attention has been drawn to the falsehood peddled in the publication of Sahara Reporters titled ‘Suspected herders raid LAUTECH students’ off-campus hostels in Oyo, Reportedly kill two’.
“There is no iota of truth in the story as no student of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso, has been reportedly killed in the nearest past.
“There have been cases of armed robbery in some parts of the student area but that is being frontally addressed as the University authority is collaborating with security agencies and local government authorities to ensure regular patrol in the area.
“As we write, no arrest has been made to identify whether the assailants are of Hausa, Yoruba, Fulani or Igbo extraction.
“It is therefore irresponsible to report such a story without an attempt to reach the University authority for confirmation.”
