What started as a humble beginning in 1995 is what is being celebrated as a harbinger of greatness today. One thing I know is that when the idea of starting a citadel of knowledge was muted by the proprietor and owner of the college, Ayegun Baptist Church Ogbomoso, little did they know that they were about shaping destinies and lives that would forever be grateful to them for that initiative. They never saw the extent to which what was a dream then would go. The dream of then clocks 30 years today, Thursday, September, 2025. ABCCO is the first privately owned secondary school in ogbomosoland, at least in the recent history in Ogbomoso.
Monday, September 13th, 1999 was my first day of the six years I would later spend in the school, having just been admitted into JSS 1. With every one clothed in their white and royal blue uniforms (I learnt they later changed the uniform), two things that instantly stood out for me that day were the orderliness of the assembly and the no-nonsense disposition of our then principal, late Rev G. O. Lasehinde (may God continue to rest his soul). Immediately, I knew this is not a run of the mill school but one with a mission of intentionality in moulding destinies and shaping lives across all spectrums: be it!spiritually, mentally, academically, emotionally and character wise.
Since inception, the motto of the school has really been a silent inspiration to the scores of students that would ever be privileged to pass through it. A theme I believe was divinely breathed upon humanity. The college has really lived true to its motto, “WITH GOD, ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE” on all fronts, starting from its unsteady gait at inception, having commenced operations from a temporary abode at Sawmill Adeleke area before relocating to its permanent site, though it’s a common saying that the journey of a thousand miles begins with a step – to serious buffetings at infancy on all sides due to the stretched capacity of the new found school and the need for commensurate amenities to cater to the increasing demands. But with God, all things are possible; the school survived its teething stage and deserving of a special mention in all of these is the iconic baba, late Rev’d Lasehinde of blessed memory, may God make his legacies to continue to speak.
Truly, ABCCO has been a school set on a hill, as its anthem goes. The citadel has been a shining light in the midst of darkness given the various heights attained by its alumni, thereby hoisting its banner in their different fields of endeavour. The school has birthed tech gurus of repute, doctors, engineers, renowned academics, among others.
It is high time we gave back to our alma mater as alumni, having first poured itself into us, it is time we poured ourselves into the college by meeting its pressing needs this time, thereby etching our names into the pantheon of the college history. There is an alumni association that sees to this objective and purpose; the growth and expansion of our alma mater, let us all cooperate with the executives in charge of this association.
As the drums are being rolled out today till Sunday, September 28, 2025, every alumnus of this great college is hereby enjoined to share in this joy and to propel it forward by contributing our quotas to its development. Looking back in these 30 years, truly with God all things are possible.
