The Nigeria Computer Society (NCS), the nation’s foremost association of information technology professionals, has conferred its highest professional honour on Stephen Olatunde Olabiyisi, a Professor of Computer Science, Department of Computer Science, Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso, Oyo State.
The recognition, according to NSC, marks a milestone in his distinguished career and highlights his notable contributions to Nigeria’s digital development.
The honour was formally presented on Thursday at the MUSON Centre, Onikan, Lagos, during the 2025 edition of the Nigeria Information Technology Merit Award (NITMA).
The annual awards ceremony is widely regarded as one of the most prestigious gatherings in the country’s ICT sector, bringing together innovators, policymakers, corporate leaders, academics, and international technology partners in celebration of excellence across Nigeria’s digital landscape.
This year’s event drew an impressive audience comprising top industry figures, representatives of professional bodies, government officials, and global ICT stakeholders.
A central highlight of the ceremony was the induction of distinguished professionals into the exclusive NCS College of Fellows, an honour reserved for individuals who have made outstanding and enduring contributions to the advancement of information technology in Nigeria.
Speaking shortly after his conferment, Prof. Olabiyisi expressed deep appreciation to the National Executive Council (NEC) of the NCS for approving his elevation.
He explained that the NEC subjected the nomination process to rigorous scrutiny before granting approval, noting that the council acknowledged his long-standing commitment to digital development, professional excellence, and capacity-building within the ICT sector.
Olabiyisi further stated that the recognition is a testament to years of dedicated service driven by passion for national growth through technology.
He praised the leadership of the NCS President, Dr. Muhammad Sirajo Aliyu, whose administration, he said, has consistently prioritised merit, innovation, and the promotion of excellence within the profession.
According to him, the NEC, under Dr. Aliyu’s guidance, described the fellowship conferment as an affirmation of his significant contributions to Nigeria’s digital transformation agenda and a recognition of his unwavering dedication to advancing the nation’s technological frontier.
The 2025 NITMA ceremony concluded with renewed calls for strengthened collaboration among government institutions, private sector organisations, academia, and global partners to accelerate Nigeria’s journey toward a fully digitised economy.
