It was a defining moment in the political development of Ogbomoso on Saturday as leaders, community stakeholders and well-wishers converged on the Tombola Hall of the Ogbomoso Recreation Club to celebrate the birthday anniversary of renowned entrepreneur, philanthropist and grassroots politician, Hon. Tosin Olanrewaju Adegun, popularly known as Larry Lo Kan.
The well-attended celebration attracted All Progressives Congress (APC) leaders, party faithful, community figures and admirers from within and outside Ogbomoso, underscoring Hon. Adegun’s growing influence and deep-rooted connection with the people of Ogbomoso North Local Government Area.
From the early hours of the day, the venue was a hive of activities as guests trooped in to honour the celebrant. The ambience was enlivened by a striking dress code of white attire paired with colourful blue native caps, which added elegance and colour to the occasion.
Guests were also treated to thrilling musical performances by popular band, D-Remight, keeping the celebratory atmosphere vibrant throughout the event.
Hon. Tosin Olanrewaju Adegun is an illustrious son of Onisa Laalu Compound, Aguodo Area of Ogbomoso, born into the family of Engr. Ezekiel Segun Adegun, JP, and Mrs. Oluwatoyin Afolake Adegun. He hails from a background of discipline and public service, as his father, a seasoned engineer of high repute, served meritoriously in the Oyo State Public Service across several local governments before retiring in 2017.
Educated at Maryland Catholic Primary School, GOMAL Baptist College, and Ayegun Baptist Church College, all in Ogbomoso, Adegun’s formative years were shaped by values of hard work, service and leadership. He later studied Law at the University of Abuja, obtained a BSc in Marketing from Torrens University, Australia, and also earned a BSc in Nursing from Nurse Training Australia, reflecting his diverse academic and professional exposure.
An accomplished entrepreneur, Hon. Adegun is the founder of the Tolax business brand, with interests spanning Nigeria and Australia, including a thriving marketing platform and other ventures.
Through his businesses, he has created employment opportunities for over 250 people, reinforcing his belief that entrepreneurship should be a tool for economic empowerment and social transformation. He is also credited with establishing a fully operational vegetable oil production line, contributing significantly to local industrial growth and livelihoods.
Beyond business, Hon. Adegun is widely respected for his philanthropic interventions through the Tolax Foundation, a non-governmental organisation committed to empowerment, welfare and community development.
Through the foundation, he has fed over 3,000 people, organised free eye screenings for the elderly, paid school and WAEC fees for indigent students, settled hospital bills for women who gave birth, supported widows and vulnerable families, and donated a vehicle to assist a needy household. Many speakers at the event described these interventions as only a fraction of his far-reaching impact on the community.
Among dignitaries present at the celebration were notable APC leaders and influential personalities, including Hon. Wasiu Olukan, Deacon Aderinto, Alhaji Bukola Badmus, Prince Abass Bello Bayewuwon, and Elder Samuel Atiba, among others. The presence of the celebrant’s parents, family members, friends and close associates added emotional depth to the gathering and drew warm applause from attendees.
The event also provided a platform for glowing tributes, as beneficiaries and associates recounted Hon. Adegun’s generosity, accessibility and commitment to grassroots development.
Political leaders praised him as a loyal APC stalwart, a bridge-builder and a dependable mobiliser who has consistently identified with the aspirations of the people.
In his remarks, Hon. Adegun expressed profound gratitude to God and appreciation to all guests for honouring his invitation. He described the massive turnout as humbling and a call to greater responsibility.
The celebrant used the occasion to formally declare his intention to contest for the Oyo State House of Assembly, Ogbomoso North State Constituency, on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections. He said his decision was driven by years of engagement with the people and a desire to deepen his service through legislative representation.
Hon. Adegun pledged that, if elected, he would pursue people-oriented, transparent and accountable representation, with emphasis on education, youth empowerment, economic development and social welfare. He assured constituents of his readiness to remain accessible and responsive while partnering with stakeholders to advance the interests of Ogbomoso North.
Observers described the event as more than a birthday celebration, noting that it also signalled the beginning of intensified political consultations ahead of 2027. As guests departed, there was a shared sense that the day marked not only a personal milestone for Hon. Tosin Olanrewaju Adegun but also a defining chapter in his journey toward higher public service.
