The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP), Federal Polytechnic Ayede Chapter, has elected its pioneer executive members, with TPL Richard Oluwaseyi Taiwo emerging as the Chairman.
The election, which was coordinated by the union’s electoral committee, was held in a peaceful and transparent atmosphere, as academic staff trooped out to elect their officers.
Prior to the commencement of voting, candidates vying for various offices were given the opportunity to present their manifestoes to members of the union.
The interactive session also allowed the electorate to engage aspirants through questions aimed at assessing their programmes and plans for staff welfare and union development.
Voting commenced yesterday at about 12:45 p.m., with eligible members casting their ballots in an orderly and fair process.
The exercise was concluded around 2:00 p.m., after which sorting of electoral materials was carried out, lasting about one hour before the commencement of vote counting.
At the end of the exercise, TPL Richard Taiwo secured 73 votes to defeat Mr. Kazeem Raji, who polled 57 votes, to emerge as the pioneer Chairman of the chapter.
In other results, Mr. Sadiq Idris emerged as General Secretary after polling 65 votes to edge out Mr. Oniyide Adekunle, who secured 63 votes.
Mr. Gani Ekpobari was elected, unopposed, as Assistant General Secretary with 123 votes.
Victory Omotola Ogunniyi won the position of Internal Auditor, defeating Owolabi Muhammad with 79 votes to 49, while Mrs. Monsurat Adesokan emerged as Treasurer, defeating Mr. Augustin Udoh with 67 votes to 63.
Mr. Salami Abdul-Mummeen was elected Vice Chairman after defeating Dr. Temitope Sarah Akinde with 76 votes to 54.
Mr. Saaka Daniel Ngutor emerged as Publicity Secretary, defeating Mrs. Yetunde Gaffar with 67 votes to 63.
Similarly, Ganiyu Precious clinched the position of Welfare Secretary, defeating Sakariyah Aishat with 69 votes to 60, while Mr. Olayemi Afolabi emerged as Financial Secretary after polling 69 votes to defeat Mr. Aminu Olatunji, who secured 62 votes.
