Federal Polytechnic Ayede, Ogbomoso, Oyo State, has set the tone for its historic maiden combined convocation ceremony with a thanksgiving and prayer service, reflecting the institution’s journey of growth, resilience and academic advancement.
The spiritual gathering, held at the Polytechnic’s temporary site in Iresa-Pupa, Surulere Local Government Area, drew management staff, students and well-wishers who assembled to celebrate the institution’s steady progress since its establishment.
The ceremony featured uplifting musical renditions by the Polytechnic Christian Fellowship Choir, creating an atmosphere of gratitude and reflection as the institution prepares to graduate its first sets of students.
Speaking during the service, the Rector, Engr. Dr. Taofeek Adekunle Abdul-Hameed, who was represented by the Polytechnic Librarian, Dr. Samuel Oke Ogunniyi, described the convocation as a major milestone in the Polytechnic’s history.
He noted that despite numerous challenges encountered during the formative years of the institution, sustained commitment, stakeholder support and divine grace had propelled the Polytechnic to its present stage of development.
The Rector commended the Federal Government and education stakeholders for their roles in supporting the institution’s growth.
He specifically acknowledged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, Minister of State for Education, Prof. Suwaiba Ahmad, Executive Secretary of the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), Dr. Idris Bugaje, and Chairman of the Governing Council, Hon. Yakubu Dati.
He also appreciated the contributions of principal officers, staff and students toward building the institution’s academic reputation.
Addressing the graduating students, the Rector urged them to see their graduation as a stepping stone toward greater accomplishments, encouraging them to pursue further academic and professional development while upholding the values of excellence and integrity.
Delivering the sermon, Guest Minister Bishop Ponle Adegboyega Alabi congratulated the graduands and praised the Polytechnic management for successfully nurturing them into responsible individuals ready to contribute to national development.
The cleric advised the students to remain resilient in the face of challenges, emphasising that setbacks should be viewed as opportunities for growth. He further cautioned them to choose their associations wisely, noting that relationships play critical roles in shaping personal and professional success.
Bishop Alabi also stressed the importance of faith, perseverance and determination, sharing personal experiences of overcoming academic challenges through steadfast commitment and reliance on God.
The thanksgiving service marks the beginning of a series of activities lined up for the maiden combined convocation ceremony of the institution.
