The Federal Polytechnic Ayede, Ogbomoso, Oyo State has called for urgent infrastructural support to sustain its rapid growth, as the institution unveiled activities for its maiden combined convocation ceremony.
Rector of the Polytechnic, Engr. Dr. Taofeek Adekunle Abdulhameed, stated this during a pre-convocation press conference held at the institution’s permanent site in Ayede, Ogo-Oluwa Local Government Area of Oyo State.
According to the Rector, activities lined up for the convocation include a novelty football match between teaching and non-teaching staff, as well as a convocation lecture titled “The Role of Technology in Implementing Nigeria’s New Tax Laws: Challenges, Prospects and Implications for National Development” to be delivered by the Executive Chairman of the Nigeria Revenue Service, Dr. Zacch Adelabu Adedeji, while the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, will chair the session.
The convocation ceremony proper, scheduled for Thursday at the Polytechnic’s permanent site, will feature the award of National Diplomas, presentation of academic prizes, and conferment of Fellowship awards on Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, Dr. Zacch Adelabu Adedeji, and Engr. Dr. Abubakar Isa, Chairman/CEO of Spectrum Engineering Ltd.
The ceremony will conclude with a Jumat prayer on Friday at the temporary campus in Iresa-Pupa.
Highlighting the institution’s achievements since its establishment on January 19, 2021, Dr. Abdul-Hameed revealed that all graduating students have undergone vocational training aimed at enhancing employability and promoting entrepreneurship.
He further disclosed that fifteen academic staff members have benefited from TETFund-sponsored postgraduate scholarships, while over 190 staff have participated in professional trainings, conferences, and workshops within and outside Nigeria.
The Rector, however, stressed the need for government and stakeholder support in constructing access roads linking the Polytechnic through Idi-Araba, Oolo, and Odo-Oba, alongside provision of affordable accommodation, infrastructure, and essential amenities for staff and students.
Dt. Abdul-Hameed also commended the Soun of Ogbomosoland, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Ghandi Afolabi Olaoye, Orumogege III, and the Soun-in-Council for their support towards the institution’s development.
He equally appreciated other traditional rulers, including the Alajaawa of Ajaawa, Oba Thomas Adeyeye Oyetunji; the Onpetu of Ijeru, Oba Sunday Oladapo Oyediran; the Olugbon of Orile-Igbon, Oba Francis Olusola Alao; and the Aresa-Pupa of Iresa-Pupa, Oba Moses Olayiwola.
He also acknowledged notable individuals such as Professor Adesola Adepoju, Alhaji Lamidi Monsuru Ayoade Ejide, Pa Festus Oladejo Akanni, Senator Hamzat Ayoade Adeseun, and Alhaji Alimi Sarumi for their contributions to the institution’s development.
