Hon. Sanjo Onaolapo Adedoyin, a.k.a. Sanjay, the Majority Leader of the Oyo State House of Assembly, is a top-ranking leader of the Allied People’s Movement (APM). He is a two-term legislator already, during which he has posted a record of sterling performance.
A Prince of Onpetu of Ijeru Royal Dynasty, he is representing Ogbomoso South State Constituency in the Oyo State House of Assembly, starting in 2019, when he defeated the incumbent.
His trajectory shows he is cut for leadership; he started advocacy since his school days. At the St. Andrew’s College of Education, SACOED (now Emmanuel Alayande University of Education), Oyo and at the University of Ilorin, Ilorin, he efficaciously cut his teeth in politics; he was a student unionist with impactful participation. At SACOED, in 1991, he was a member of the Students Representative Council (SRC) and later emerged as Students Union’s Public Relations Officer during the 1992/1993 academic session. In 1994, he was a member of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), and appointed a member of the University of Ilorin Students Union’ electoral committee in 1995. In 1996, he emerged as the national president of the Federation of Ogbomoso Students Union (FOGSU).
After school, it was natural for him to join partisan politics since he is always borne by a desire to serve the people. And willing to learn the rope he started from the grassroots, not avoiding the time of small beginning. His activities and devotion saw him emerging as Supervisory Councilor for Health and Environmental Protection in Ogbomoso South local government (2004 – 2007). That was not all, between 2015 and 2016, he was appointed a member of the Governing Council of the Federal University Lokoja (FUL), Kogi state, where he served meritoriously in line with his character of advocacy for good governance.
His track record, confidence and leadership acumen made him emerge as Majority Leader in his first term as Legislator in 2019. And he has not disappointed, he has been a vocal member of the House, always advocating for good governance, and he is always heard because of his persuasive power and articulate presentation. More importantly, he has made outstanding achievements in terms of “stomach infrastructure.” Not necessarily providing food directly but offering what can provide food to numerous people. He has staged a number of mega empowerment programmes in which he distributed some of the following items, to put smile on the faces of his constituents. Some of the items are 34 power generating sets, 34 grounding machines, 26 gas cylinders, 10 refrigerators, 36 sprayers, 10 hair dryers, 15 sewing machines, among others. He as well gave cash gifts to widows and the vulnerable. This, according to the grassroots man, is meant to make life bearable for the people.
Creditably and commendably, he has moved some thirty-six (36) motions on the floor of the House, most of which border on the overall well-being of the people of his constituency, Ogbomoso, Oyo state and Nigeria in general; he has sponsored and co-sponsored many bills initiating progress and developments across.
Furthermore, he has constructed nineteen (19) boreholes and rehabilitated damaged ones; renovated collapsed fence of Baptist Secondary Grammar School, Ahoyaya, Ogbomoso; distributed food items and other relief materials during COVID-19 pandemic; and regularly purchases UTME forms for indigent students of his constituency among others.
Also, Sanjay facilitated empowerment programmes from the Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency (RUWASSA) to 40 people with each of them empowered to the tune of N60, 000 (sixty thousand naira); facilitated employment opportunities for many people through the Oyo State Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM), SUBEB, Ministry of Education as education officers, local government, Fire Service, Amotekun Corps, Hospital Management Board, contract staff at LAUTECH and LAUTECH Teaching Hospital, Ogbomoso etc.
In addition, Adedoyin has used his influence to facilitate car loans to over five hundred teachers, he disclosed, in his capacity as Majority Leader. Within and outside his constituency, he has also assisted retirees to process their gratuities and other allowances.
He is now seeking a third term; he deserves to be supported for the good of Ogbomoso. He has always been a strong voice advocating for the progress and transformation. If he is not seeking a higher office, returning to the House to consolidate his position is the best for Ogbomoso, not only Ogbomoso South local government.
