The Federal Polytechnic Ayede, located in Ogbomoso, Oyo State has appointed Dr. Mrs. Halimat Amuda as the new Coordinator of the institution’s Women in Technical Education and Development (WITED).
The Chairman of chapter and acting Rector, Engr. Dr. Morufat Temilola Adepoju, announced the appointment
during a WITED meeting held today at TETFund Auditorium, Iresa-Pupa temporary site of the institution
In her address, Dr. Adepoju commenced President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu and the Federal Government for their devotion to technical education and women inclusivity.
She also thanked the Governing Council led by Honourable Yakubu Dati; pioneer Rector, Engr. Dr. Taofeek Adekunle Abdul-Hameed and other pioneer Principal Officers; present Principal Officers; Management, staff and students for their support for the progress of this institution so far.
According to WITED Constitution, the Rector, whether in acting or substantive capacity as well as whether male or female, is the Chairman of the WITED of any Polytechnic.
Speaking on Dr. Amuda’s appointment which, she said, would be made official by a letter from the institution’s Registrar, Dr. Adepoju said, “The appointment of Dr. Mrs. Halimat Amuda as WITED Coordinator of our chapter came unopposed, being the most senior female accademic staff.
“Also, the Rector, whether in acting or substantive capacity as well as whether male or female, is the Chairman of the WITED of any Polytechnic.
“So, I, as the acting Rector, automatically become the Chairman of WITED, Federal Polytechnic Ayede chapter, according to WITED Constitution.”
Dr. Adepoju emphasised that the purpose of establishing Women in Technical Education and Development (WITED) is for women staff in Polytechnics to function well and encourage fenale students to be achievers in all they do.
Dr. Adepoju also promised, on behalf of the Management, to support the project of WITED of the institution.
She hinted that the WITED election for other positions will come up on Wednesday, 1st July, 2026.
In her address, the newly appointed Coordinator, Dr. Mrs Halimat Amuda, expressed gratitude to the Management led by Engr. Dr. Adepoju and the entire female staff for the opportunity to serve in the capacity.
Presenting the vision of the chapter, Dr. Amuda said, “The WITED of the chapter is committed to becoming a leading platform for empowering women and inspiring the girl-child to pursue excellence in science, technology, engineering, mathematics (STEM) and technical education.
“The chapter aims to achieve this through mentorship, capacity building, research, innovation, entrepreneurship, advocacy and strategic partnerships, while promoting an inclusive environment that removes barriers to female participation and advances gender equity.
“It also seeks to strengthen the visibility, leadership and contributions of women in academia and technical professions through collaboration with the institution’s management, industry, government and other stakeholders, with the ultimate goal of driving sustainable national development and enhancing global competitiveness.”
