Tinubu hails rescue of 308 abducted Nigerians, orders stronger early warning systems

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has welcomed the successful rescue of 308 abducted Nigerians from different attacks in Kwara and Niger states, describing the operation as a testament to the growing effectiveness of intelligence-led security operations and inter-agency collaboration.
According to a statement issued on Wednesday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the rescued victims comprised 163 persons abducted from Woro Community in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State and 145 others from Niger State.
The victims were rescued from the Kainji Lake National Park Forest in New Bussa Local Government Area of Niger State during what the Presidency described as the largest same-day rescue operation ever conducted by a joint security team.
The operation was coordinated by the National Counter-Terrorism Centre (NCTC) and involved personnel of the Armed Forces of Nigeria, the Department of State Services (DSS), and the Nigeria Police Force.
Commending the security agencies for the successful operation, President Tinubu praised their courage, professionalism, and cooperation.
”The successful execution of this intelligence-led operation demonstrates the growing efficiency and collaboration among our security services. I commend our gallant men and women in uniform for their bravery and unwavering commitment to safeguarding Nigerian lives,” the President said.
The statement noted that the rescued victims are currently receiving first aid and essential medical treatment at the medical facility in Wawa Cantonment. After completing medical evaluations, they will be handed over to the governments of their respective states for further care and reunification with their families.
While celebrating the successful rescue, Tinubu stressed the need to reinforce the country’s security architecture to forestall future abductions.
He directed security agencies and relevant stakeholders to immediately strengthen early warning systems, deepen intelligence gathering at the community level, and improve rapid response mechanisms across the country.
The President reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to tackling insecurity and protecting Nigerians.
”My administration remains steadfast in its resolve to eliminate security threats, protect vulnerable communities, and restore lasting peace across every corner of the nation,” Tinubu said.
