Alajiki residents seek govt, security interventions over criminal hideout, burglary cases in Ogbomoso

Residents of Alajiki area in Ogbomoso, Oyo State have raised the alarm over an abandoned building they allege has become a hideout for suspected criminals, calling for urgent intervention by the government and security agencies.
The residents, in an urgent appeal dated August 7, 2026, addressed to Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde; Executive Chairman of Ogbomoso North Local Government Area; the Area Commander, Nigeria Police Force, Ogbomoso Area Command; the Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Ghandi Afolabi Olaoye, and Hon. Engr. Muftau Open Salau, said the situation had heightened fear and insecurity in the Alajiki community and surrounding areas of Ogbomoso.
According to the concerned residents, the vacant property, located behind the building opposite Alajiki Mosque in Alajiki area, Ogbomoso, is currently unoccupied.
They said they understood that the property had been sold to a new owner, but claimed that the identity of the new owner was unknown to residents and community leaders.
The residents alleged that the abandoned building had now become a hideout for suspected criminals and other dangerous elements, who allegedly use the property as an entry point into neighbouring homes.
They further alleged that the suspected criminals always jump the fence from the property into adjoining houses to steal residents’ valuables.
They added that such incidents had occurred on several occasions and had been reported at the nearest police station.
They expressed concern that the continued use of the building had significantly increased fear and insecurity among residents of Alajiki and neighbouring streets.
“More worrisome, these individuals use the house as an entry point. They jump the fence from this property into neighbouring homes to steal residents’ valuables,” the residents stated in their appeal.
They therefore called on the relevant authorities to urgently investigate the ownership of the property and establish contact with the new owner, while appealing for the building to be secured, reconstructed or totally demolished, if necessary, to prevent it from being used for criminal activities.
“The safety of lives and property in Alajiki Area is at stake,” they said, expressing the belief that prompt action by the authorities would restore peace and confidence among residents.
The residents urged the Oyo State Government, Ogbomoso North Local Government, security agencies and traditional authorities to treat the matter with urgency in order to prevent further criminal incidents and safeguard lives and property in Ogbomoso.
