The Chairman of Ogbomoso North Local Government, Hon. George Ogunlade, has mourned the death of veteran Yoruba actor, Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo Ikulodo, describing his passing as a painful reminder of the transient nature of life.
Ogunlade, in a condolence message shared on his Facebook page, said Hassan’s contributions to the Yoruba film industry and the preservation of Yoruba culture would remain indelible.
“There are moments in life that remind us of the uncertainty of our journey and the importance of humility,” Ogunlade said. “No matter how celebrated or accomplished we are, life is temporary, and what truly remains is the legacy we leave behind.”
The council chairman described Hassan as “a legendary actor whose remarkable performances entertained generations and helped preserve and promote our rich Yoruba culture.”
He recalled that from the early days of Yoruba theatre and film to the present era, many people had enjoyed the actor’s talent and the memories created through his performances.
Ogunlade also reflected on Hassan’s relationship with his late colleague and lover of the arts, Ireti, saying the actor’s death brought memories of her to mind.
“Your death also makes me remember your beloved colleague and lover of the arts, Ireti. If truly souls meet again in heaven, perhaps this is a reunion beyond our understanding,” he wrote.
The Ogbomoso North council chairman said Hassan’s impact went beyond entertainment, stressing that his work contributed significantly to the promotion of Yoruba cultural heritage.
“Your contributions to the Yoruba film industry and our cultural heritage will remain indelible,” Ogunlade stated.
He prayed for the forgiveness of the deceased’s shortcomings and for God to grant him eternal rest.
“May Almighty God forgive your shortcomings and grant your gentle soul eternal rest,” he added.
Ogunlade concluded his tribute by describing Hassan as a legend whose influence would continue to live on through his body of work.
“Rest well, Legend. Your legacy lives on,” he said.
