Fed Poly Ayede new acting Polytechnic Librarian promises full library automation

The newly appointed acting Polytechnic Librarian of the Federal Polytechnic Ayede, Ogbomoso, Oyo State, Dr. Halimah Odunayo Amuda, has promised to pursue the full automation of the institution’s library as part of her vision for the library.
Dr. Amuda stated this when the Centre for Information, Communication and Public Relations (CICPR), led by its acting Director, Mr. Sunday Adepoju, paid a visit to her office on Wednesday.
She said her vision was to reposition the library as a crucial component of the Polytechnic’s academic activities, stressing that librarians have important roles to play in the growth and development of educational institutions.
According to her, one of her major objectives as acting Polytechnic Librarian is to ensure that the library becomes fully automated through the application of computers and other telecommunications technologies.
She explained that automation would move the library from manual system to a more modern and efficient system of operation.
Dr. Amuda further explained that the core responsibility of librarians was to support teaching, learning and research activities by providing relevant books, journals and other scholarly resources that would benefit staff and students.
She expressed concern that some lecturers and other members of the academic community often rely solely on information obtained from the internet without consulting the library.
She, however, noted that information obtained online might not always be completely reliable, stressing that libraries provide access to carefully selected resources whose publishers and sources have been evaluated before acquisition.
She, therefore, encouraged staff and students of the Polytechnic to make greater use of the library and its resources for reliable academic information.
She commended the past management of the Polytechnic for its efforts in providing relevant resources for the library, noting that she was also part of the team that contributed to the development of the library.
She urged the current management to build on the achievements recorded so far by providing more up-to-date materials and supporting further development of the library.
