A renowned philanthropist, businessman, religious and community leader, Alhaji Lamidi Monsur Ayoade Ayinde Ejide, has spent about N40 million on various philanthropic projects and humanitarian interventions in Ogbomoso and beyond to commemorate the 40th remembrance of his grandmother, late Alhaja Sinat Ejide.
The interventions, which cut across education, community security, religious development, empowerment and healthcare, were unveiled in connection with the 40th remembrance prayer held recently in honour of the late matriarch at Ejide Central Mosque, Kuye area, Ogbomoso, Oyo State.
Among the major beneficiaries are the Federal Polytechnic Ayede and Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, alongside some other institutions, religious organisations and individuals.
Speaking with Pan-Nigerian News (pannigeriannews.com) today in Makkah, Saudi Arabia, where he and members of his family are currently performing Umrah, Ejide explained that the interventions were part of his commitment to honouring the memory of his grandmother through projects that would have lasting positive impacts on society.
He said the decision to channel resources into education, security, religious development, empowerment and healthcare was informed by his desire to sustain the values of generosity, compassion and service to humanity which he associated with the memory of his late grandmother.
At the Federal Polytechnic Ayede, Ejide donated the sum of N20,456,920 for the renovation of an existing building to serve as a police and security post around the institution’s permanent site in Ayede, Ogo-Oluwa Local Government Area of Oyo State.
The project, which is expected to strengthen security arrangements around the institution, will involve internal alterations and partitioning, plastering, installation of security doors, repairs to the existing aluminium roofing, replacement of damaged ceiling sections, provision of toilet facilities, plumbing, painting, tiling and electrification, among other improvements.
The initiative to secure the police post and pursue the renovation project commenced during the tenure of Engr. Dr. Temilola Morufat Adepoju as acting Rector of the institution.
At LAUTECH, the philanthropist also supported the University’s Centre for Emerging Skills and Technology (CEST), paying 50 per cent of the N12 million funding requirement as his contribution towards strengthening the centre’s capacity to equip young people with relevant digital and emerging technological skills.
The centre’s proposed intervention includes the acquisition of additional laptop computers to improve practical training in areas such as software engineering, embedded systems, Internet of Things, robotics, artificial intelligence and mechanical design.
The support is expected to enhance the centre’s capacity to accommodate more trainees and provide them with the necessary tools for practical learning.
In another intervention at LAUTECH, Ejide donated N2 million towards the development of a psychology laboratory, while the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), LAUTECH branch, received N1 million.
His philanthropic gestures also extended to the renovation of some mosques, with work already commenced on the identified projects.
Other beneficiaries include some indigenes of Ogbomoso who received empowerment support to improve their livelihoods, as well as individuals whose medical bills, particularly those relating to eye health, were settled through his humanitarian intervention.
The 40th remembrance of Alhaja Sinat Ejide, which brought together Islamic clerics, family members, associates, community leaders and well-wishers, was marked with prayers for the repose of her soul and renewed calls for people to uphold the virtues of compassion, generosity and service to humanity.
By committing about N40 million to projects and interventions in her memory, Ejide said he chose to make the remembrance not only a moment of prayers and reflection but also an opportunity to extend support to institutions, communities and individuals.
