Ogbomoso, the second largest city in Oyo State, South-West, Nigeria, is blessed with notable sons and daughters who are making impacts within and outside Ogbomoso. One of them is a prince of Onpetu royal house.
The majority leader of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Hon. Sanjo Onaolapo Adedoyin (popularly called Sanjay), is a top-ranking leader of the PDP and the government of the state under the governor of Oyo State, Engr Seyi Makinde. In 2019, Hon. Adedoyin, the prince of Onpetu of Ijeru royal dynasty, was elected to represent Ogbomoso South State Constituency in the Oyo State House of Assembly.
Adedoyin, who was educated at the St Andrews College of Education (SACOED), Oyo and the University of Ilorin, Ilorin, has cut his teeth as a student unionist before joining societal politics. He was a member of the Student Representative Council (SRC) at SACOED in 1991 and Students Union Public Relations Officer during 1992/1993 academic session.
He was a member of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) in 1994; a member of the University of Ilorin Students Union Electoral Committee in 1995. He was the national president of the Federation of Ogbomoso Students Union (FOGSU) in 1996.
His contributions in politics saw him emerge as local government supervisory councillor for health and environmental protection. Between 2015 and 2016, he was a member of the governing council of the Federal University, Lokoja.
Tagged a silent achiever in his legislative and oversight duties, Adedoyin recently set the record straight in his numerous achievements as well as his mega empowerment programme to put smile on the faces of his constituents. Parts of the items distributed to his constituents included: 34 power generating sets, 34 grounding machines, 26 gas cylinders, 10 refrigerators, 36 sprayers, 10 hair dryers, 15 sewing machines, among others, including cash gifts to widows and the vulnerable. These, according to him, were meant to make life bearable for people.
Also in the scorecard of the grassroots leader are: moving of 16 motions at the floor of the House, most of which, according to him, border on the overall well-being of the people of his constituency, Ogbomoso, Oyo State as a whole and Nigeria in general; sponsoring and co-sponsoring of many bills that bring overall progress and accelerated development to the state and the nation at large.
Records available to PANNIGERIAN NEWS show the construction of boreholes, rehabilitation of damaged boreholes, renovation of collapsed fence of Baptist Secondary Grammar School, Ahoyaya, Ogbomoso; distribution of food items and other relief materials during COVID-19 palaver; purchase of UTME forms for indigent students of his constituency.
Others are facilitation of empowerment programmes from Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency (RUWASSA) to 40 people with each of them empowered to the tune of #60; facilitation of employment opportunities to many people through the state’s Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM), Ministry of Education as education officers, Amotekun operatives, Hospital Management Board, contract staff at LAUTECH and LAUTECH Teaching Hospital, Ogbomoso.
Speaking to PANNIGERIAN NEWS on employment opportunities for youths, Adedoyin, noted “Empowerment is a continuous exercise and names of successful candidates in the non-teaching staff recruitment in public secondary schools would soon be released.”
Again, Adedoyin has used his influence to facilitate car loans to over one hundred teachers in his capacity as a majority leader. Within and outside his constituency, he has also assisted retires to process their gratuities and other allowances. His representation, as a strategist in silence with these achievements, is a plus for him in his re-election bid come 2023.
Welldone to the lawmaker…I doubt his re-election
