
Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso has commended the institution’s Visitor and Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde, for his numerous supports towards infrastructural development.
Speaking at the LAUTECH’s 16th convocation press conference at the institution’s Senate Chambers, the acting Vice Chancellor, Prof. Rasaq Olatunde ROM Kalilu, stated that the various intervensions of Governor Makinde has has propelled the drive to establish the university at the zenith of academic excellence.
He said the support has provided grounds for the heights of the university continuously ranked overall best state university in Nigeria, 11th best in Nigeria and best industry compliant university.
“In November 2023, the Times Higher Education ranked the university as the best state University in Nigeria. In January 2024, the Times Higher Education released its 2024 world universities ranking.
“The university was ranked as indicated below as overall best university in Nigeria: 11th in Nigeria; best state university in Nigeria; in industry as first in Nigeria. The university just won it back to back,” Kalilu said.
The award-winning academic, who noted that the government could not do it alone, made clarion call on alumni and other well meaning Nigerians to support the university in the areas of infrastructural development, connections and linkages.
Kalilu, who lauded the contributions of alumni and other donors, said: “The expansion of our academic vista and the rapid growth of the university have imposed the need for infrastural upgrade and expansion. Consequenrly, four of our large lecture theatres were renovated to make the learning environment more conducive.
“A TETFund sponsored Faculty of Pure and Applied Sciences Building Complex that was started in 2015 and left uncompletef since 2019 has been completed to complement the ones currently in use.
“Similarly, the two high impact jostels started in 2019 were completed and will soon be released for use. There are also ongoing constructions…. It is noteworthy that the Oyo State Government, under the leadership of Governor Seyi Makinde, has continued its massive ingrastructiral development of our Iseyin campus.
“Our Central Research Laboratory has been galvanised and the ICT facilities have been expanded. The library subscriptions and physical books collection have been enhanced with our twenty million naira.
“These nneedskeep expanding. I therefore invite different stakeholders and friends of the university to join hands with the government further develop the university.”
