Ahead the 2023 general elections, the majority leader of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Hon. Sanjo Adedoyin; a business tycoon, Hon. Femi Onireti and others have emerged the standard bearers of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the House of Assembly and House of Representatives elections in Ogbomoso zone in peaceful atmosphere.
The elections held across the states of the federation.
Like in every other states of the federation, the winners emerged unopposed in elections that composed three ad-hoc delegates per ward, as witnessed by staff of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The elections for the two federal constituencies in Ogbomoso zone, which held on Sunday at the Ogbomoso Town Hall, Ojaagbo and Ajaawa Town Hall, Ajaawa, produced Mr Femi Onireti and Mr Ojo Sunday Makanjuola for Ogbomoso South/North/Oriire and Ogo-Oluwa/Surulere respectively.
The elections for the four House of Assembly seats in Ogbomoso zone, which held at the respective designated venues, also produced Hon. Sanjo Adedoyin (Ogbomoso South state constituency), Hon. Bisi Oluranti Oyewo-Michael (Ogbomoso North), Hon. David Ogundele (Oriire) and Hon. Adeoye Abideen Ogundare (Ogo Oluwa/Surulere).
The returning officer for Ogbomoso Constituency 1, Mr Olusina Theophilus, declared Onireti as the winner, having emerged unopposed.
Mr Theophilus said, “Out of the 93 votes by accredited delegates, Mr Femi Onireti, having scored the total of 93 votes, is hereby returned elected.”
In his acceptance message after his victory, Onireti thanked the party, its leaders and all the delegates for believing in him and promised that he would represent them and the people of the constituency well if elected.
Like others, Hon. Adedoyin also polled 31 votes out of the total 31 votes to clinch the ticket of the PDP ahead of the coming elections.
According Adedoyin, his victory is a victory for all and sundry.
The story is not different in Ogo Oluwa/Surulere as Hon. Makanjuola also had all the votes to become the flag bearer of the party.
The PDP chairman in Ogbomoso North local government area, Hon. George Gbadegesin Ogunlade, told PanNigerian News that the party will secure victory in Ogbomoso, in particular, and Oyo State, in general 2023.
He premised his boast of the victory on what he called ‘the creditable performance of Governor Seyi Makinde.
According to him, “You will see that our leader and governor of Oyo State, Engr Seyi Makinde, has achieved good governance in the state. He has touched our communities for good and the people of Ogbomoso will reciprocate by voting him and our candidates massively.
“Just last week, he flagged off Ogbomoso-Fapote-Iseyin road. He has secured LAUTECH for Oyo State. Oyo State is in good hands.
“I, therefore, urge all the teeming members of our party, the citizens of oou dear state to continue supporting the government of Governor Makinde beyond 2023.”
In attendance at the Ojaagbo venue were party leaders, including chairman of Ogbomoso North local government area, Hon. Kabiru Ayoade Akanji; Mr Timothy Oyedokun, from Ogbomoso South; Prince Garuba Tewogbola Laoye (Cashman); state treasurer of PDP, Mr Sunday Bankole; former Commissioner for finance in the state, Chief Bayo Bankole; state organising secretary of the party and former chairman of Ogbomoso South LGA, Hon. Taiwo Alagbe; party chairman in Ogbomoso North LGA, Hon. George Ogunlade, among others.
There were also the presence of the councilors, ward chairmen of the party, local government executive committee members of the party and members of the party at all the venues of the elections across the zone.
