President Bola Tinubu has appointed a former commissioner for special duties and rural integration in Osun State, Engr Lekan Badmus, as executive director at the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA).
In a statement on Thursday, Ajuri Ngelale, special adviser to the president on media and publicity, said Badmus was spoointed as executive direcor, marine and operations at NPA.
Badmus was also recently elected the global president of the Looks Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso to replace Hon. Solomon Onilede who served two terms as president.
Others were also appointed as executive directors in NPA and Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA).
Ngelale said due to the profile of the directors, Tinubu expects them to expeditiously and efficiently execute their collective mandate to create the conditions required to significantly raise the contribution of the marine and blue economy sector to the country’s gross domestic product (GDP).
He said the president also trusts their contribution will evolve the Nigerian economy into a labour-intensive and inclusive one that creates new opportunities for all Nigerians under the guidance of Adegboyega Oyetola, minister of marine and blue economy.
Meanwhile, on November 14, 2023, Oyetola said the federal government is considering re-establishing a national shipping line.
The creation of the national shipping firm, which he said would be through a strategic public-private partnership (PPP) arrangement, is aimed at capturing a substantial share of the estimated $10 billion annual ship charter market within the country.
