As part of the efforts to scale up tuberculosis (TB) control campaign and end the pandemic in Nigeria, the Ogun State Ministry of Health’s Tuberculosis, Leprosy and Buruli Ulcer Control Programme (TBLCP) in collaboration with the National Youth Service Corps( NYSC) in the state has inaugurated corps members asTB Ambassadors.
Speaking at the one-day induction programme, the state Programme Manager for TB and Leprosy Control Programme, Mrs Olusola Taiwo, represented by the Programme Monitoring and Evaluation Officer, Tijani Musibau, appreciated the corps members for volunteering to contribute their quota to effort geared towards ending TB pandemic in Nigeria.
Olusola emphasised the symptoms to watch out for when carrying out their exercises, noting that coughing for two weeks and above, persistent fever, weight loss, and sweating at night are necessary red flags.
She directed that such people must be referred to the nearest health facilities.
In her reaction, the Assistant Director, Community Development Service, Mrs Joke Oyenuga, who spoke on behalf of the State Coordinator, Ogun State NYSC, Mr Jimba Chris, charged the corps members to use the opportunity to build up their lifetime experiences .
Letters of introduction were issued to the volunteers which would be presented at the Local Government Secretariat in order to enable them participate in the Special TB Control Programme at CDS level.
As it is the tradition in the NYSC scheme, it was noted those with outstanding performances will be rewarded with various awards and certificates of commendation at the of their service year.
The state TBLCP and her partners had earlier sensitised the corps members on TB control and conducted TB screening and testing on the camp community which comprises camp officials, corps members and camp marketers.
