The acting Vice Chancellor of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, Prof. Olatunde Kalilu, has stressed that the vision of the institution has surpassed being the current best state university in Nigeria.
It is recalled that LAUTECH has been rated as the overall best state university in Nigera and 11th overall best university in Nigeria, according to the Times Higher Education World University ranking in the United States of America.
Speaking at the 17th Annual Lecture, Civic Reception and Alumni Re-Union 2023 organised by LAUTECH Global Alumni Association today, Prof. Kalilu, who lauded the alumni body for its numerous contributions to the development of the institution in different areas, emphasised that the university now focuses on tall ambition of ranking among the first best universities in Nigeria.
Kalilu, who also hammered on what he called the reconfiguration of LAUTECH, said, “Our university is now peaceful. We have recently introduced liberal arts and social science programmes in the ongoing reconfiguration of the university.
“As you might have been aware, the university has recently consolidated its position as the overall best state university and 11th best in Nigeria as ranked by Times Higher Education World University ranking in the United States of America.
“It is also rated as the overall best in industry in Nigeria. Moreover, the outstanding performances of our products are commendable and the alumni association, indeed, is highly inspired.”
He maintained the vision of the institution has surpassed being the overall best state university in Nigeria, saying, “At this point, being the best state university no longer matches our vision. We targeted being one of the best throughout the world.
“This is, indeed, a tall but achievable ambition and for which all hands must be on deck. This vision requires provision of ultra-modern facilities and cutting hedge research and pedagogical standards.
“The LAUTECH Alumni Association is commended for supporting this vision. I also want to invite the alumni association to join the train and together, let us take a flight to the limitless boundaries of the destination of the new LAUTECH of our dream.”
Part of the event was the annual lecture delivered by the law-maker representing Oyo Central senatoeoal district at the Senate, Sen. Dr Yusnus Akintunde titled “Power generation and utilisation as alternative funding to the Nigerian Educational System: Pivotal tools for Universities financial autonomy and advancement of the Nigerian youths.”
The national secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Sen. Ajinola Bashiru, among other political class were at the event..
Speaking earlier at the event, the global LAUTECH Alumni President, Hon. Solomon Onilede, noted that graduates of the institution are briliantly performing in different sectors of the Nigerian economy.
Onilede said, “Dear fellow alumni, I thank you all for standing solidly by our administration in the last six yearsyears. An ivory tower is only as great as the quality of graduates it has produced.
“Today, our alma mater boasts of successful individuals in all sectors of life. Therefore, I charge you all the accomplished alumni to leverage your connections and good positions in attracting more developmental projects for our alma mater’s sustainable growth.
“It is noteworthy that LAUTECH has contributed amd still contributing a lot to the development of Nigeria’s human resources and therefore, the university should be supported in its next phase of growth and development.
“I’m saying we are not doing well for the institution as a body and individuals, I’m encouraging is to do more.”
The Chairman of the Organising Committee, Prof. Samson Ojoawo, also lauded the cooperation of the every member of the alumni association for contributing to what has crystallized to the event.
“Ojoawo stated, “Today, it is our joy to have another competent Guest Lecturer in this edition, Distinguished Senator Yunus Akintunde.
“Therefore, on behalf of our Global Alumni President and his entire Executive Committee members, the untiring and highly resourceful 17th Alumni Lecture Committee members, and the entire LAUTECH Global Alumni both at home and in the Diaspora, I welcome you all.”
Part of the highlights of the alumni reunion was the conferment of different awards on the institution’s principal officers and eminent alumni of the institution.
