An Ogbomoso group, Ogbomoso Good Governance Initiative (OGGI), has appealed to Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, Craneburg Construction Company and Reynolds Construction Company (RCC) to factor putting pedestrian bridge at the Low-Cost section of the Ogomoso-Fapote-Iseyin road being constructed by the state government.
Investigations by PANNIGERIAN NEWS reveals that, hitherto, there has not been any plan by Craneburg and RCC to factor in a pedestrian bridge linking the Low-Cost area and Total Filling Station along Alao- Akala’s residence, Randa, Ogbomoso.
Feelers from the residents of the areas are that the company handling the construction (Craneburg) and RCC might neglect it, thereby leaving the residents of the areas in peril of killing pedestrians as the underpass, it has been said, is narrow.
Arising from the palpable fear, the President and Secretary of OGGI, Comrades Samuel Akanbi and Saheed Jimoh, respectively called on the Oyo State Commissioner for Public Works and Transport, Prof. Daud Sangodoyin; Governor Seyi Makinde; Craneburg Construction Company which handles the project and RCC which will handle the Low-Cost flyover (which falls under the Ilorin-Ogbomoso-Oyo road constructed by the Federal Government) to construct such pedestrian bridge.
The group also called on the political class and other stakeholders from Ogbomoso to be proactive and embark on further investigation as to whether the state or the Federal Government has the intention of constructing a pedestrian bridge on the flyover.
OGGI further stressed that RCC should also gear efforts towards reciprocating such pedestrian bridge at Olomi and NTA flyovers, also in Ogbomoso.
The statement read, “We, as a progress-loving group of Ogbomoso origin, commend the effort of the Oyo State Government led by Governor Seyi Makinde for deeming it fit to construct the Ogbomoso-Fapote-Iseyin Road. It came at a time when the hopes of the people were lost on the road.
“We, however, want to draw the government’s attention to the underpass and flyover around Low-Cost segment of the road. It is our observation that it poses grave danger to those who will be trekking from Blind Centre, Adeniran towards Randa as there is was no plan by neither of the Craneburg and the RCC which handles the Ilorin-Ogbomoso-Oyo segment of the road still under construction by the Federal Government.
“We, therefore, in the interest of the communities affected, call on His Excellency, Governor Seyi Makinde; Oyo State Commissioner for Public Works and Transport, Prof. Daud Sangodoyin; Craneburg Construction Company; Reynolds Construction Company and other stakeholders from Ogbomoso.”
