
The National Industrial Safety Council of Nigeria (NISCN) has sympathised with Governor Muhammed Umar Bago of Niger State and the families of over 150 people who recently lost their lives in a flood that ravaged Mokwa communities of the state.
The National President of the NISCN, Engr. (Dr.) John Obajinmi, in a condolence statement made available to Pan-Nigerian News on Monday, also called on the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Chief George Akume; Governor Bago and other stakeholders to put measures that would prevent a recurrence of such disaster in place across the nation.
Obajinmi said, “On behalf of the National Industrial Safety Council of Nigeria (NISCN), I offer our heartfelt condolences to the Governor of Niger State, His Excellency, Governor Mohammed Umar Bago and the families of over 150 people who lost their lives to a devastating flood that ravaged Mokwa communities in Niger State.
“The NISCN uses this medium to appeal to the Secretary to Government of the Federation, Chief George Akume, to quickly direct management of Ecological Funds to respond to the devastating disaster by dreading the paths for rivers to flow without causing harm.
“We also appeal to Governor Mohammed Umar Bago to quickly evacuate other workers and people that are still at the risk of more flood dangers during this rainy season in order to avoid more devastating emergencies.
“It is time workers and citizens in areas that are prone to such disasters made their own escape plans with immediate effect.”
Obajinmi added that, as a nation, it is imperative to start planting massive trees and deploy other mechanisms with m a view to addressing issue of disasters now or in the future.
