Every August 14 marks the birthday of Honourable Adewuyi Folaranmi Adegbite, fondly called ‘Dewuyi Olukumopa’ or Adema. Without any iota of doubt, Olukumopa is a household name in the ancient town of Ogbomoso — a noble family that has produced, and is still producing, intellectual personalities across various fields of life.
Boda ‘Dewuyi, as I often call him, is undoubtedly one of those proudly keeping the flag of the Olukumopa family flying. This short birthday tribute is therefore imperative, not only because of his achievements, but also because of the affection and deep fraternity I share with the Olukumopa lineage. Looking back in my personal archives, Boda ‘Dewuyi is one of four members of the family who have left an indelible mark on my life. The others are Engr. ‘Gbola Adegboyega, Engr. Abayomi Adegbite, and Sir Akinade Johnson Adeyemi — all of whom are in my “good books.”
The summary of Hon. ‘Dewuyi Olukumopa’s life can be likened to the saying: “The more you look, the less you see.” The more people try to fully understand him, the more elusive he becomes, not out of secrecy, but because he is a man of many parts and an uncompromising set of principles. He does not conform to the crowd; rather, he pursues his convictions with unrelenting passion and commitment, even in the face of adversity.
He is a practicing farmer, a registered timber contractor, politician, socio-political analyst, human rights crusader, professional historian, and author. As an author, his works proudly find space in both private and public libraries within Nigeria and beyond, standing shoulder-to-shoulder with other notable intellectual publications.
Today, I wholeheartedly congratulate Boda ‘Dewuyi on these milestone achievements. I pray that the remaining journey of his life will be far greater, richer, and more fulfilling than the years gone by.
Adema, happy birthday, and congratulations, Sir!
