Birthdays often come quietly, but for public figures whose lives are intertwined with service, leadership, and political responsibility, such milestones invite reflection. Today, as Otunba Segun Ogunwuyi marks another year, it is fitting to pause and examine the journey, the values, and the continuing relevance of a man whose name has become inseparable from governance in Oyo State.
Hon. Ogunwuyi, the Otunba Mayeloye of Ijeru, is not new to the demanding corridors of public service. As the Chief of Staff to Governor Seyi Makinde, he occupies one of the most sensitive and strategic positions in the state’s administration; one that requires discretion, loyalty, stamina, and an uncommon understanding of power and restraint.
In many ways, the Office of Chief of Staff is where policy meets people, and where political promises are tested against administrative realities. Before this role, Ogunwuyi had already etched his name into Oyo State’s political history. He served as a member of the Oyo State House of Assembly, representing Ogbomoso South State Constituency, where he cut his teeth in legislative work and grassroots engagement. At the federal level, he also represented Ogbomoso North, Ogbomoso South, and Oriire Federal Constituency, further broadening his experience and understanding of diverse community needs.
One defining feature of Otunba Ogunwuyi’s political identity is his unapologetic loyalty to Governor Seyi Makinde. In an era where political allegiance is often transactional and fleeting, he has remained a steadfast “Man Friday,” standing firm through storms and successes alike. This loyalty, however, has not been blind; rather, it has been anchored on shared ideals of reform, inclusiveness, and purposeful governance.
Beyond titles and offices, Otubba Ogunwuyi has consistently projected a belief in youth empowerment. In a country where young people form the majority yet struggle for opportunity and representation, this conviction is both timely and necessary.
His engagements with youths, directly and indirectly, reflect an understanding that sustainable development is impossible without investing in the energy, creativity, and potential of the younger generation.
As Otunba Ogunwuyi begins another year today, this birthday is more than a personal celebration; it is a reminder of expectations. Public trust is renewed daily, not inherited permanently. The years ahead will demand even more wisdom, patience, and courage as governance grows increasingly complex and citizens more vocal in their demands.
On this occasion, I wish Otunba Segun Ogunwuyi a prosperous new year; one blessed with good health, sound mind, peace, and enduring relevance. May the coming years deepen his impact, sharpen his judgment, and strengthen his resolve to serve with humility and purpose.
Happy birthday, Otunba Ebenezer Segun Ogunwuyi. May the burden of leadership sit lightly on your shoulders, and may service continue to define your legacy.
