A 27-year-old man, Shehu Sani, on Monday, pleaded not guilty to a charge of alleged unlawful sexual intercourse with a 17-year-old girl before a Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court sitting in Garki.
Sani was arraigned before Justice Maryam Dayyibu on a one-count charge bordering on unlawful sexual intercourse.
According to the charge, the defendant allegedly had unlawful sexual intercourse with the minor on March 23, 2025, in Gwarinpa, contrary to Section 31(1) of the Child Rights Act.
The defendant, who was unrepresented at the previous sitting, entered his plea after appearing with his counsel, Mr John Samuel.
The Prosecution Counsel, Mr Okonkwo Udo was absent in court but he wrote a letter to the court seeking an adjournment.
He informed the court that he was engaged in other criminal matters scheduled for the day.
The Samuel did not oppose the application.
Justice Dayyibu adjourned the matter until Oct. 12 for hearing.
