The Olugbon of Orile-Igbon, Oba Francis Olushola Alao, has congratulated Nigeria’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to Austria and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Dr Florence Ajimobi, on her appointment as Nigeria’s Governor on the IAEA Board of Governors for the 2026–2028 term.
Oba Alao, in a statement, described the appointment as a notable recognition of Ambassador Ajimobi’s diplomatic experience and commitment to national service.
Ajimobi’s appointment followed Nigeria’s election to the 35-member IAEA Board of Governors during the 70th Regular Session of the IAEA General Conference in Vienna, Austria.
In her new capacity, Pan-Nigerian News reports that Ajimobi will represent Nigeria in deliberations on the agency’s programmes, nuclear safety and security, safeguards, peaceful applications of nuclear science and technology, and international cooperation.
The monarch said the new responsibility would provide Ajimobi with another platform to contribute to Nigeria’s interests at the international level, particularly in areas where nuclear science and technology can support development.
He noted that Ajimobi’s new assignment was coming shortly after she formally commenced her duties as Nigeria’s Ambassador to Austria, following the presentation of her Letters of Credence to Austrian President, Alexander Van der Bellen.
Oba Alao said he was particularly pleased with the development, noting that Ajimobi had continued to take on responsibilities that placed Oyo State and Nigeria in the international spotlight.
Olugbon, who had in 2023 conferred on Ajimobi the traditional title of Yeye Oba of Orile-Igbon, wished her wisdom, strength and success in her new assignment, expressing confidence that she would continue to represent Nigeria with dignity and commitment.
Ajimobi is Nigeria’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Austria and Permanent Representative to the IAEA and other international organisations in Vienna.
