The victory of the first son of former Governor Adebayo Alao-Akala of Oyo State, Olamijuwonlo, at the All Progressives Congress (APC) House of Representatives primaries, today, has been described as the celebration of the late hero.
The Chairman of the Senate Committee on Land Transport and lawmaker representing Oyo North senatorial district, Sen. Fatai Buhari, expressed joy that APC family had compensated the labour of Alao-Akala.
Sen. Buhari thanked all the delegates for the massive supports extended to Olamijuwonlo, even after the demise of the patriarch of Alao-Akala political dynasty.
“With Olamiju and other children, my brother, Alao-Akala didn’t die. He is starting from where his father stopped.
My dear people, do not leave Olamijuwonlo alone.”
Olamijuwonlo Alao-Akala was massively elected by all the 150 accredited delegates as the candidate of the APC in the race to the Ogbomoso North, Ogbomoso South and Oriire seat in the House of Representatives come 2023.
Olamijuwonlo, a former chairman of Ogbomoso North local government area, polled all the 150 votes to clinch the ticket of the APC.
Declaring the result of the election at the designated venue, Aina Guest House, Oke-Aanu area of Ogbomoso, the returning officer, Mr Taiwo Richard Oluseyi, said, “The total number of accredited delegates for the exercise is 150. The was no void vote.
“Two candidates, Olamijuwonlo Alao-Akala and Feyintola Onabanjo, contested here. At the end of the election, Onabanjo scored nil.
“Olamijuwonlo Alao-Akala, having satisfied the requirement of scoring the highest number of votes, and scoring 150 out of the overall 150 votes, is hereby returned elected.”
Before, during and after the exercise, there were echos and repitition of the Alao-Akala.
Speaking with newsmen after his victory, Olamijuwonlo, who harped on the qualities of Akala and unity among party’s tendecies.
He said, “Winning the primary is not the joy of the day. The joy of the day is the unity in the party; that is, coming together to share a common goal.”
Confident of victory come 2023, the chairman of the APC in Oyo North senatorial district, Mr Tunde Oloyede, said the unrivalled contributions of Alao-Akala, the performance of the APC in the zone, among other are indications that Olamijuwonlo will be victorious at the general election.
A chieftain of the party, Hon. Rasaq Bello, pointed out that there are a lot of people of other political parties that will vote for Olamijuwonlo come 2033.
He situated this with what he called ‘exemplary leadership’ of the late politician.
The 1999 senator of Oyo North senatorial district, Brig. General Brimo Yemi Yusuf, among other leaders, graced the exercise.
