The deputy governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State, Hon. Adesoji Michael Adedeji, has called on Nigerians to renew their commitment to the unity, development and progress of the country as Nigeria marks 66th Independence Anniversary.
In a statement issued on Thursday to commemorate the anniversary, Hon. Adedeji congratulated Nigerians, particularly the people of Ogbomoso, Oyo, Oke-Ogun, Ibarapa and Ibadan zones of Oyo State, and prayed for continued peace, stability and prosperity across the country.
He urged Nigerians to reflect on the sacrifices of the nation’s founding fathers and recommit themselves to building a country where justice, responsible leadership, hard work and patriotism remain guiding principles.
According to him, the challenges confronting the country require the collective commitment of citizens and leaders, stressing that Nigerians must continue to support efforts aimed at strengthening the nation’s economy, institutions and democratic development.
Adedeji described President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as a “silent achiever” whose experience in public service and leadership remains unrivalled, and called on Nigerians to support his re-election for a second term in 2027.
He said the President’s experience and ongoing efforts at reforming the Nigerian economy deserve the continued attention and support of Nigerians.
He urged voters to participate actively in the democratic process.
On Oyo State, Adedeji appealed to residents and indigenes across the state to support the APC governorship ticket of Senator Sharafadeen Abiodun Alli and Hon. Adesoji Michael Adedeji in the 2027 governorship election.
He described Senator Alli’s experience across the three levels of government as an important asset for Oyo State, noting that the APC candidate has served at the grassroots as Chairman of Ibadan North Local Government Area, at the state level as Secretary to the Oyo State Government and Chief of Staff, and currently at the federal level as Senator representing Oyo South Senatorial District.
Hon. Adedeji said such breadth of experience would be valuable in transforming Oyo State into what he described as “a real pacesetter state that every citizen can be proud of.”
He stressed the importance of combining grassroots understanding with state and federal governance experience.
He, therefore, urged voters across Oyo State to support the APC candidates in the 2027 general elections, including candidates for the Senate, House of Representatives and Oyo State House of Assembly.
The APC deputy governorship candidate particularly solicited the support of the people of Ogbomoso, Oyo, Oke-Ogun, Ibarapa and Ibadan zones for the Alli/Soji ticket, saying that the ticket represented an opportunity for the people of the state to unite around a leadership team with broad experience and understanding of the state.
Hon. Adedeji cited local government autonomy as a way to extend development to the grassroots, promising that Alli/Soji ticket will respect and adhere strictly to local government autonomy.
He added that the manifesto announced by Barrister Sharafadeen Alli yesterday included each hospital per local government area and primary health care centre each per ward across the state.
He called on APC members and supporters across the 33 local government areas to remain united, mobilise peacefully and engage voters on the party’s programmes ahead of the 2027 elections.
“On this 66th Independence Anniversary, I congratulate all Nigerians and urge us to continue to believe in the Nigerian project. Let us remain committed to peace, unity, responsible citizenship and the development of our dear country.
“In Oyo State, I appeal to our people across Ogbomoso, Oyo, Oke-Ogun, Ibarapa and Ibadan to support Senator Sharafadeen Abiodun Alli and myself for Governor and Deputy Governor respectively. I also appeal to Nigerians to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term and to vote for APC candidates across the National and State Houses of Assembly.
“Together, we can build an Oyo State and a Nigeria that we will all be proud to call our own,” he said.
