Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has formally commenced his campaign for the 2027 presidential and National Assembly elections, declaring that his campaign will focus on putting Nigerians first and resetting the country to work for all citizens.
Makinde, in the latest edition of his newsletter, The Business of Governance, titled “The First Steps,” said the commencement of campaigns marks the beginning of a national conversation on Nigeria’s current state, its desired direction and the kind of leadership required to achieve meaningful progress.
He said his campaign would involve extensive engagements across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones, with a strong emphasis on listening to citizens and understanding their concerns.
“Our central message to Nigerians is that we have to reset our country so that it works for all Nigerians, not just a select few,” Makinde said.
According to him, the engagements would bring the campaign closer to workers struggling with rising living costs, business owners battling to remain operational, farmers concerned about security and access to markets, young Nigerians seeking opportunities and families worried about safety.
Makinde also disclosed that his manifesto, the Reset Agenda, is currently undergoing stakeholders’ review and would focus on key national challenges, including insecurity, the economy, the cost-of-living crisis and food security.
He stressed that the manifesto would go beyond outlining promises by explaining how proposed policies would be implemented, funded and measured.
The governor said Nigerians should scrutinise the records, ideas and capacity of all candidates rather than allowing the 2027 elections to be reduced to slogans, personalities and political entertainment.
“Campaigns should be about more than slogans, personalities and promises,” he said, urging voters to examine what candidates had achieved with responsibilities previously entrusted to them and whether their proposed solutions could address the country’s current realities.
