US delivers equipment to Nigerian Air Force to boost counter-terrorism efforts

The United States has delivered military equipment to the Nigerian Air Force as part of efforts to strengthen the security partnership between both countries and support Nigeria’s counter-terrorism operations.
The U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM) disclosed this in a statement shared on Thursday, saying the equipment was transported to Nigeria aboard a U.S. Air Force C-17 aircraft.
According to AFRICOM, the delivery is one of several expected shipments under a foreign military sales agreement between the United States and Nigeria.
“This weekend a U.S. Air Force C-17 delivered equipment to the Nigerian Air Force,” AFRICOM said.
“The equipment is one of several expected deliveries designed to fulfill a foreign military sales agreement that furthers the U.S.-Nigerian partnership and will aid in Nigeria’s efforts to counter terrorism in the region,” it added.
The U.S. military command also stressed that its support for Nigeria’s Armed Forces was being provided at the invitation of the Nigerian government and in recognition of the country’s sovereignty.
“U.S. military support to the Armed Forces of Nigeria is by its invitation and rooted in respect for Nigerian sovereignty,” AFRICOM said.
