A gale of euphoria has accompanied the hope of having a community-driven private university in Ogbomoso, the second largest city in Oyo State, Nigeria.
This is evident through a broad based education summit scheduled to be held on Saturday, June 24, 2023 and attended by seasoned scholars and educational administrators of international repute.
Justice Afolabi Adeniran (retd), president, Ogbomoso Parapo Worldwide, will be chief host at the event packaged under the auspices of Ogbomoso Academics in conjunctions with Ogbomoso Community Youth Forum (OCYF) at the summit which will, among others, consider the challenges inherent in the vision, under the theme, “The Ogbomoso University: Prospects and Challenges.”
It is recalled that the idea of establishing a privately owned university spearheaded by the people of Ogbomoso has been on for some time with various proposed brand names such as “Ogbomoso University” and “Ajilete University”.
In a release signed by the duo of Mr Ben Onigbinde and Revd Peter Olaleye for the groups, the summit, geared towards bolstering “education sector in Ogbomoso zone, Oyo State and Nigeria in general,” will specifically “explore the founding of a university in the ancient city of Ogbomoso whose proposed name is Ogbomoso University.”
Slated for Ogbomoso Recreation Club, at 9:00a.m., speakers including Prof Razaq Olatunde Rom Kalilu (former Deputy Vice Chancellor and acting Vice Chancellor of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, LAUTECH); Prof Joshua Ogunwole (Vice Chancellor, Bowen University, Iwo), Prof Mrs Alice Jekayinfa; Dr Adeniyi Temitope Adetunji; Revd Peter Olaleye (president of Ogbomoso Community Youth Forum, OCYF), Prof. Kayode John Oyewumi and Prof Timothy Olagbemiro (former Vice Chancellor of Bowen University, Iwo and Edwin Clark University and who is chairman of Ogbomoso Academics) will ex-tray the theme.
It is also noted that OCYF, under the dogged leadership of Revd Olaleye has been hell-bent on the development of Ogbomoso in terms government presence, basic facilities, among others, with his constant relationship and dialogue with the high profiled and eminent personalities of Ogbomoso origin and beyond.
