RS Berkane of Morroco defeated Orlando Pirates of South Africa on penalties to win this season’s CAF Confederation Cup, for the second time in their history.
The final was played at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo, Nigeria on Friday night, and the game ended 1-1 after extra time.
Berkane opened the scoring from the penalty spot, nine minutes into the extra time.
Pirates leveled three minutes before the end of the game, ensuring that the match went into a penalty shootout.
Making their 3rd appearance in the final in the last four seasons, RS Berkane emerged as winners 5-4 on penalties as the Moroccan team converted all their five penalties on the night.
RS Berkane have now won their 2nd Confederation Cup title in three years, they also beat Pyramids of Egypt 1-0 in 2020 final.
Orlando Pirates were looking to become the first South African team to win the Confederation Cup after they also lost to Etoile du Sahel of Tunisia in the 2015 final.
The winner of the tournament, RS Berkane will receive $1.25 million as prize money, while the runners-up will get $625,000.
