The National Sports Commission (NSC) has successfully resolved the lingering leadership crisis in the Nigeria Judo Federation (NJF), with stakeholders unanimously endorsing Dr. Musa Oshodi as President of the Federation and Mr. Segun Gbayi as Technical Director.
The resolution followed a peace pact brokered by the Director General of the NSC, Honourable Bukola Olopade, which brought together all aggrieved parties within the Nigerian judo community.
The agreement reaffirmed support for the elected board led by Dr. Oshodi, while Mr. Gbayi was confirmed as the Federation’s Technical Director.
As part of the resolutions reached, stakeholders also agreed on the appointment of Mr. Amos Iliya as the new Chairman of the Technical Committee of the Federation.
In a statement by the Director, Information and Public Relations of the NSC, Dr. Mrs. Kehinde Ajayi, the Director General, Honourable Bukola Olopade, described the peace pact as a major boost for the growth and development of judo in Nigeria, stressing that no sport can thrive amid internal discord.
“A sport can only achieve limited success when it is plagued by internal crises. This is why, at the Commission, Mallam Shehu Dikko and I have consistently preached peace and reconciliation among stakeholders who genuinely love their sport,” Olopade said.
He noted that judo remains one of the sports in which Nigeria has strong medal prospects at major international competitions, including the Commonwealth Games and the Olympic Games, provided the federation remains united and crisis-free.
“Judo is one sport where Nigeria has the potential to win medals at the Commonwealth Games and even the Olympics, but this can only be achieved with a stable and united federation,” the NSC boss added.
Reacting to the development, the President of the Nigeria Judo Federation, Dr. Musa Oshodi, expressed appreciation to the Director General for his fatherly intervention and commitment to restoring peace within the federation.
Dr. Oshodi assured that his board would sustain the peace and work inclusively with all stakeholders to advance the development of judo in the country.
“As advised by the Director General, we will work with all stakeholders, carry everyone along with respect and dignity, and ensure the growth of judo nationwide,” he said.
