The Ladoke Akintola University of Technology Global Alumni Association has elected former Osun State commissioner for special duties and rural integration, Hon. Olalekan Badmus, to replace Hon. Solomon Onilede, who ended two terms of six years on Saturday.

Onilede-led administration really facilitated projects to LAUTECH, networked alumni, helped indigent students, contributed to the management and Oyo State’s drive to solely own LAUTECH, saw to the welfare of alumni and supported the institution in different ways.
Announcing the results of the election which was held at LAUTECH Guest House, Oke Afin, Ogbomoso, on Saturday during the association’s convention, the chairman of the electoral committee, Prof. Remi Aworemi, said Hon. Badmus and others emerged unopposed.
Also elected were Dr Adeyemi Adeboje, global deputy president; Engr Siyanbola Akeem, global vice president, North; Hon. Ojo Abolade, global vice president, South; Dr Olusoji Akinrinade, global vice president, Diaspora; Prof. Akeem Ige, global secretary; Engr Bolade Abolarinwa, global assistant general secretary; Mr Jerry Oyewo, global financial secretary; Dr Niyi Bashiru Ola-Omodara, global treasurer; Dr James Babalola as global public relations officer.
Others were Ms Adenike Akinola as global social secretary; Ms Mary Samson as global welfare secretary and Ms Oyenike Makinde as global internal auditor.
Prof. Aworemi said, “I hereby sincerely congratulate you all and wish you success during your tenure which, by the grace of God, will commence on Monday.
“By the grace of God, certificate of return will be presented on Monday by 8:00a.m. in the Council Chamber, Prof. Akinola Muritala Salawu Senate Building, LAUTECH, Ogbomoso. Swearing-in ceremony will take place at the same venue by 9:00a.m. the same day.”
Meanwhile, the president-elect, Hon. Badmus, among others have hailed the outgoing global president, Hon. Onilede, for his leadership in the association.
Speaking to newsmen shortly after the election, Hon. Badmus commended what he called the laudable efforts of his predecessor and promised to build on his legacy.
“I commend Hon. Solomon Onilede who has actually raised the bar of the alumni association of LAUTECH. He has put a lot in the union and we shall build on that legacy.
“Communication and networking are very key to any alumni association. We will make sure that there is a connection between the older and younger generations of our alumni so that we can be of help. This will make our alumni, anywhere they are, to always be proud of LAUTECH.
“Members’ welfare will also be our priority and watchword and this are some of the legacies that Hon. Onilede left and we shall consolidare on them,” Hon. Badmus said.
Speaking earlier at the convention, a former member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Shina Peller, expressed confidence that the next global executive body will consolidate on the successes made by Onilede.
Hon. Peller, who recently donated a building to the Iseyin Campus of LAUTECH, encouraged the global body to put every machinery in place with a view to developing the institution with their limits.
Also, during the convention and after, there were eulogies and commendations for the outgoing president of the union on what many tagged selfless and meritorious service to his alma mater.
Speaking shortly after the election, Hon. Onilede thanked the global association for the opportunity given to him to serve in the capacity, commending the supports given to the administration.
He thanked the various donors and partners, especially Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, Dr Samson Adegoke Maigida Foundation, Hon. Sunday Dare who was the immediate past minister of youth and sports development, among other eminent Nigerians.
He, therefore, thanked the alumni for the confidence reposed in him during the administration.
