The city of Ogbomoso came alive with excitement and celebration recently as Galaxy FC emerged champions of the 2nd Edition of the Babalaje Cup 2026, a football competition organized in honour of the birthday celebration of Engr. Muftau Open Salawu, the Babalaje of Ogbomosoland and the Giwa Adini of Oyo State.
The football tournament, which kicked off on April 5, 2026, featured 32 teams from different parts of Ogbomosoland.
The grand finale, held at the Soun Township Stadium, Ogbomoso, witnessed a massive turnout of football lovers, political leaders, community stakeholders, and youths who gathered to celebrate sportsmanship, unity, and leadership.
Galaxy FC finally claimed the trophy after defeating Apex FC with an impressive three-goal performance in the final encounter.
In a further display of generosity and appreciation to attendees, 48 people received cash gifts after the event, adding more excitement and joy to the celebration.
Several dignitaries and influential personalities graced the occasion, including High Chief Dr. Saka Balogun; Hon. George Ogunlade, the Executive Chairman of Ogbomoso North Local Government; Hon. Sunday Bankole, the Oyo State Treasurer of the PDP; Hon. Oyedepo Ezekiel; Hon. Banji Folaranmi; Hon. Seun Asamu, the Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources in Oyo State; all councillors in Ogbomoso North led by the Leader of the House, Hon. Popoola Olakunle; all Supervisors and Special Assistants in Ogbomoso North; Engr. Rabiu Adeyemi Bello; Hon. Lanrewaju Oladeji; Folami Olatilewa; alongside several political stakeholders and party members.
The event further reflected the growing influence and popularity of Engr. Muftau Open Salawu, whose commitment to grassroots empowerment and community development remains his top priority.
