A youth and grassroots politician, Hon. Ogunwoye Gbemiga Samson (popularly called OGS), has declared his intention to contest the Surulere/Ogo-Oluwa Federal Constituency seat in the House of Representatives ahead 2027 general elections.
Hon. Ogunwoye made the declaration during separate consultative meetings with stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Surulere and Ogo-Oluwa Local Government Areas.
Those in attendance included local government party executives, ward executives, state party representatives, and a large number of supporters drawn from within and outside the party.
The meetings, held at Iresa-Pupa Community Hall in Surulere Local Government Area and Opete Community Hall in Ogo-Oluwa Local Government Area, were attended by enthusiastic supporters who filled the venues.
Addressing party stakeholders, Ogunwoye outlined his background and the motivation behind his aspiration, describing his journey as one shaped by perseverance and grassroots experience.
“I am an indigene of Mogaji Community in Iresa-Pupa. I attended Aduke Goodness and Mercy Primary School and later Temidire Grammar School,” he said.
He recounted his early struggles in Abuja, where he engaged in menial jobs, including working as a yam pounder, commercial motorcycle rider, and car wash attendant, while pursuing admission into the University of Abuja.
“Despite the challenges, I gained admission to study Political Science at the University of Abuja. I also had the opportunity to further my studies at the University of Sunderland in London,” he added.
Hon. Ogunwoye noted that his leadership traits were evident from an early stage, having served as a class leader at various levels of his education both in Nigeria and abroad.
Speaking on his vision, he said his aspiration is anchored on a campaign theme he described as a “rain of blessings” for the constituency.
“This is the time for the rain of blessings. Our people have endured so much, and I bring hope for a better tomorrow. With my experience and exposure, I am prepared to deliver effective representation,” he said.
He added that his decision to return home and serve was driven by a desire to improve the living conditions of his people.
“If I had chosen to remain abroad, I would still be comfortable, but I am determined to ensure that the hardship I experienced becomes a thing of the past for our people,” he stated.
Hon. Ogunwoye also assured constituents of transparent and inclusive leadership if elected saying “I will lead with the fear of God and ensure that government agencies work for the benefit of the people, not for personal interests. There is nothing like being a first-timer; my experience working in the National Assembly has equipped me with the knowledge of the job,” he said.
